TLDR: CoreWeave, a specialized cloud provider, and Poolside, an Nvidia-backed AI startup, have announced a significant partnership to develop a massive AI data center complex named ‘Horizon’ in West Texas. This ambitious project will feature a 2-gigawatt computing capacity, integrating over 40,000 Nvidia GB300 NVL72 GPUs, and is poised to significantly bolster high-performance computing resources for advanced AI workloads. CoreWeave will serve as the anchor tenant, initially occupying 250 megawatts with an option to expand by an additional 500 megawatts.
In a landmark collaboration underscoring the escalating demand for advanced computing infrastructure, CoreWeave, a leading specialized cloud provider, and Poolside, an AI startup backed by Nvidia, have unveiled plans for a colossal AI data center complex in West Texas. The partnership centers on the development of ‘Horizon,’ a facility designed to provide unparalleled high-performance computing resources essential for the next generation of AI workloads.
The ‘Horizon’ campus, sprawling over 500 acres in West Texas, is projected to boast a formidable 2-gigawatt computing capacity, a scale comparable to the electric generation capacity of the Hoover Dam. This immense power will be leveraged to integrate over 40,000 Nvidia GB300 NVL72 GPUs, positioning the complex as a critical hub for AI development and deployment.
Under the terms of the agreement, CoreWeave will be the anchor tenant, initially occupying 250 megawatts (MW) of capacity, with an option to expand by an additional 500 MW. This strategic move highlights CoreWeave’s commitment to providing ‘The Essential Cloud for AI,’ a platform trusted by leading AI labs, startups, and global enterprises.
While the financial terms of the deal were not publicly disclosed, industry analysts at Evercore ISI estimate that this partnership could add approximately $5 billion to CoreWeave’s existing backlog, potentially elevating its total backlog to over $55 billion. This substantial figure reflects the aggressive capital allocation in AI infrastructure and the robust growth trajectory of companies like CoreWeave.
CoreWeave, which completed its public listing on Nasdaq (CRWV) in March 2025, currently holds a market capitalization of $72 billion and has demonstrated remarkable market performance with a 242% return over the past six months. The company’s strategic initiatives, including this partnership with Poolside, are aimed at challenging the dominance of traditional cloud providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud in compute-intensive AI operations.
Further solidifying its position, CoreWeave recently appointed Jon Jones, former Global Head of Startups and Venture Capital at Amazon, as its first Chief Revenue Officer. Michael Intrator, Co-Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of CoreWeave, stated, “We are in a moment of hypergrowth and expanding our leadership team with our first CRO will enable us to meet the scale and complexity of the opportunities ahead.”
In related developments, CoreWeave also unveiled its new AI Object Storage service, designed specifically for AI workloads to deliver local-like performance, global availability, and significantly lower costs. Peter Salanki, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at CoreWeave, emphasized, “Now, we are rethinking storage from the ground up. We’ve built a system where data is no longer confined by geography or cloud boundaries, giving developers the freedom to innovate without friction or hidden costs.” Dave McCarthy, Research VP at IDC, added that this alignment of performance and efficiency gives CoreWeave an advantage as an AI-native cloud built for the economics of modern AI workloads.
