TLDR: Tencent has launched CodeBuddy IDE, an AI-powered programming tool that automates the entire application development process, allowing even non-technical users to create apps using natural language. The tool is currently in beta testing and aims to significantly boost efficiency in software development.
Tencent Holdings has initiated beta testing for its new AI-powered programming tool, CodeBuddy IDE, designed to revolutionize application development by fully automating the process. The smart integrated development environment (IDE) provides artificial intelligence and natural language support, enabling users to design, build, and deploy new applications without writing a single line of code. This “conversation-is-programming” approach allows even non-technical individuals to complete the entire development lifecycle, from product concept to deployment, through natural language dialogue with the AI.
Developed by Tencent Cloud, the company’s AI and cloud computing unit, CodeBuddy IDE underwent a closed 24-hour test on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, with over 50,000 invited participants. This beta testing involved real-world users examining the pre-release version of the tool, reflecting Tencent’s significant advancements in sophisticated, AI-powered developer tools.
CodeBuddy is expected to be released in both international and domestic versions. The domestic version will support mainland AI models, including Tencent’s own Hunyuan and those from DeepSeek, with a strong focus on “dialogue programming.” For international users, CodeBuddy’s version will integrate leading overseas-developed AI models such as Anthropic’s Claude, OpenAI’s GPT, and Google DeepMind’s Gemini.
Completed projects developed using CodeBuddy can be deployed by developers via Tencent’s CloudStudio, a cloud-based IDE that provides a shareable link for users to access their new applications across various devices. This innovation is part of Tencent’s broader strategy, where investments in AI have already yielded positive results, contributing to the firm’s best quarter on record since its Hong Kong listing in 2004.
