Pega and AWS Announce Five-Year Strategic Partnership to Accelerate Enterprise Legacy System Modernization with Generative AI

TLDR: Pegasystems and Amazon Web Services have entered a five-year strategic collaboration to empower enterprises to modernize outdated legacy systems using advanced generative AI. The partnership integrates AWS Transform and Amazon Bedrock with Pega Blueprint and Pega Platform, aiming to streamline the transition to cloud solutions and unlock the full potential of AI and automation for businesses grappling with technical debt.

WALTHAM, Mass. – Pegasystems Inc. (NASDAQ: PEGA), a leader in enterprise transformation, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) today announced a significant five-year strategic collaboration agreement. This partnership is set to revolutionize how global enterprises tackle the pervasive challenge of legacy system modernization, leveraging cutting-edge generative AI capabilities.

The core of this alliance lies in the integration of AWS’s advanced generative AI services, including Amazon Bedrock and AWS Transform, with Pega’s flagship platforms, Pega Blueprint and Pega Platform. Amazon Bedrock will serve as the primary generative AI foundation, providing Pega clients with secure access to a diverse range of large language models (LLMs) from leading providers such as Anthropic, Amazon, Cohere, and Meta. This integration is designed to support the entire application development lifecycle, from initial requirements analysis to workflow design and continuous refinement.

AWS Transform, utilizing agentic AI workflows, will automate the comprehensive modernization process, while Pega Blueprint, a cloud-based application, will leverage AI agents to accelerate the design and development of Pega-powered workflow applications. This combined AI-driven approach aims to enable organizations to migrate to the cloud more rapidly and efficiently, without disrupting critical business functions.

The collaboration directly addresses a pressing industry challenge. A recent survey conducted by Pega in conjunction with research firm Savanta revealed that a staggering 68% of IT decision-makers in global enterprises believe outdated legacy systems are a significant barrier to adopting innovative technologies like artificial intelligence and automation. This ‘technical debt’ creates a vicious cycle of ‘legacy dependency,’ hindering modernization efforts and operational efficiency.

John Higgins, Chief of Client and Partner Success at Pega, emphasized the significance of the agreement, stating, “By deepening our collaboration with AWS, we’re taking another major step in empowering organizations to use generative AI to accelerate their legacy application transformation initiatives.” Chris Grusz, Managing Director of Technology Partners at AWS, echoed this sentiment, noting that the partnership “combines AWS AI-powered modernization capabilities with Pega’s expertise in enterprise workflow transformation.”

Beyond technological integration, the agreement designates AWS Marketplace as the preferred transaction mechanism for Pega-as-a-Service offerings. This strategic move is expected to streamline the contracting process, reduce the time between contract signing and innovation deployment, and provide customers with financial benefits within the broader AWS ecosystem. Furthermore, the partnership includes migration services to facilitate the transition of on-premises Pega clients to cloud-based services.

Early adopters are already seeing the potential. Infosys, a mutual customer of both Pega and AWS, plans to integrate Pega Platform and Pega Blueprint into its Infosys Cobalt cloud offering, which is built on AWS. This demonstrates the practical application and anticipated benefits of the new collaboration.
