TLDR: Posco DX has announced a strategic partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to develop an ‘AI engineer’ aimed at revolutionizing industrial site operations. This collaboration will leverage AWS’s generative AI ‘Bedrock’ and machine learning service ‘SageMaker’ to automate tasks such as system design, blueprint generation, and report creation, as well as enhance the efficiency of programmable logic controller (PLC) systems. The initiative is expected to significantly boost productivity and advance Posco’s intelligent factory vision.
SEOUL, South Korea – Posco DX, a key affiliate of the Posco Group, has officially joined forces with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to spearhead the development of an advanced ‘AI engineer’ designed to automate and optimize operations across industrial sites. The partnership, formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Posco’s office in Pangyo, Gyeonggi, marks a significant step towards accelerating AI adoption in the manufacturing sector, often referred to as Manufacturing AI (AX).
The collaboration aims to create an AI agent specifically tailored for industrial environments. This ‘AI engineer’ will be capable of autonomously learning from design data of on-site equipment systems, enabling it to automatically generate critical deliverables such as design diagrams and project completion reports. This automation is expected to streamline the entire engineering design workflow.
A core focus of this initiative is to enhance the efficiency of programmable logic controller (PLC) systems, which are vital for controlling individual facilities within industrial settings. Currently, engineers are required to manually write code for these systems. With the integration of the AI engineer, the system will soon generate this code, allowing human engineers to shift their focus to reviewing and validating the AI-generated outputs, thereby significantly reducing manual programming efforts.
Posco plans to utilize Amazon’s cutting-edge AI technologies, including the Bedrock model library for generative AI and the SageMaker algorithm development platform, to build this sophisticated AI engineer. AWS will provide the necessary cloud infrastructure environment and a suite of AI applications to support the development.
The signing ceremony was attended by key executives from both companies, including Posco DX CEO Shim Min-suk and AWS Korea Managing Director Ham Kee-ho, underscoring the strategic importance of this alliance. While specific productivity targets were not detailed in the latest reports, earlier indications suggested that such advancements could boost productivity by over 30%, aligning with Posco’s overarching goal of establishing a fully intelligent factory ecosystem.
