PayU Bolsters Capital with Fresh Equity Infusion Amidst Rising Agentic AI Impact on Sales

TLDR: PayU India has successfully secured Rs 302.88 crore in fresh equity from its parent entity, MIH Payments Holdings BV. This capital injection comes as the digital payments firm navigates a period of revenue growth despite increased losses. Concurrently, the broader market is witnessing a transformative shift in sales strategies driven by agentic AI, with companies like Zigment demonstrating significant success in leveraging AI for enhanced customer engagement and lead conversion.

PayU India, a prominent digital payments firm, has announced a significant capital boost, raising Rs 302.88 crore (approximately $36.3 million) in fresh equity. The funding was secured from its Netherlands-based parent entity, MIH Payments Holdings BV, which is owned by Prosus. This strategic financial move involved the allotment of 48.68 million fully paid equity shares at Rs 62.21 apiece, with the transaction finalized on June 26.

Financially, PayU India reported a 21.41% increase in revenue, climbing from $551 million in FY24 to $669 million in FY25. Despite this revenue growth, the company’s actual consolidated earnings before taxes (aEBIT) loss widened from $32 million in 2024 to $44 million in 2025.

In parallel with PayU’s financial developments, the landscape of sales and customer interaction is being significantly reshaped by the advent of agentic AI. This advanced form of artificial intelligence is designed to act autonomously on behalf of users, combining language understanding with tools, data, and reasoning to complete tasks with minimal human intervention.

One notable example of agentic AI’s impact on sales is Bengaluru-based startup Zigment. Zigment specializes in deploying smart voice and chat agents that facilitate customer conversations and drive sales across various channels, including WhatsApp, calls, emails, and websites.

Zigment has demonstrated compelling results, with a pilot project showing strong lead conversion rates. A key client, Nova, a fertility clinic, reported that Zigment’s AI agents outperformed their human call center agents in customer interactions. The startup currently serves over 30 B2B clients, including major names like Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, Dr Batra’s, and the US-based nonprofit Give.org. Furthermore, Zigment has established partnerships with Meta and Google, enabling seamless integration with their platforms.

Looking ahead, Zigment is focused on expanding the deployment of its voice features, which already support real-time phone audio conversations and backend automations like sending WhatsApp brochures. The company is in the process of finalizing a project with the Dubai government and engaging with Indian government entities, with plans to establish an office in Dubai. Zigment operates on a SaaS pricing model, with monthly platform fees ranging from Rs 75,000 to Rs 10 lakh, adjusted based on conversation volume.

The broader market outlook for agentic AI is robust, with projections indicating it could generate up to $450 billion in economic value by 2028. Sectors like customer service, IT, and sales are expected to see the most extensive adoption. However, despite the strong momentum, only 2% of organizations have fully scaled their agentic AI deployments, and there’s a noted decline in trust in AI agents. Experts emphasize that human involvement remains crucial for maximizing the impact and effectiveness of AI agents.
