TLDR: Indian AI startups are at the forefront of democratizing agentic intelligence, moving beyond traditional AI to create proactive, goal-directed systems that enhance customer experiences and drive business value. Companies like Krutrim and Swiggy are leveraging this advanced AI to deliver hyper-personalized solutions and optimize operations, positioning India as a key player in the global AI landscape.
Bengaluru, India – July 14, 2025 – India’s burgeoning artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem is making significant strides in the realm of agentic intelligence, transforming how businesses interact with customers and operate internally. This advanced form of AI, characterized by its ability to take autonomous actions, learn from interactions, and make context-aware decisions proactively, is becoming a strategic imperative for companies across various sectors.
Agentic AI systems are a leap beyond conventional chatbots and passive data analysis tools. They are designed to be goal-directed agents that can initiate tasks and adapt to dynamic scenarios without constant human intervention. For instance, an agentic system can adjust product recommendations based on real-time factors like time of day, customer sentiment, or evolving market trends, leading to highly personalized experiences. This hyper-personalization is identified as one of the most immediate and impactful applications of agentic AI, promising higher conversion rates, reduced customer churn, and enhanced brand loyalty through more meaningful engagement.
Indian innovators are actively contributing to this global shift. Krutrim, an Indian AI unicorn, recently announced ‘Kruti,’ touted as India’s first agentic AI assistant. Launched on June 12, 2025, Kruti is designed to ‘listen, adapt, and act proactively, purposefully, and in your language,’ offering modes for instant answers, insightful reasoning, and in-depth research, similar to global counterparts but optimized for Indian users. While Krutrim aims to overcome initial challenges with its large language models (LLMs), the introduction of Kruti signifies a major step in making sophisticated agentic capabilities accessible.
Beyond consumer-facing applications, agentic AI is also optimizing enterprise operations. Indian food delivery giant Swiggy Ltd. has reportedly leveraged Akka’s Agentic Platform to significantly reduce the latency of its Swiggy ML platform by more than half. Akka, a distributed application development platform, is developing new tools to manage the complex, non-deterministic nature of AI agents, aiming to bring ‘complete certainty’ to their behavior for reliable deployment in production environments.
The broader Indian AI landscape is robust and rapidly expanding. Since 2022, the country has seen massive strides in its homegrown AI ecosystem, minting its first AI unicorn, Krutrim, and witnessing the emergence of over 140 native AI startups that have collectively raised more than $1.5 billion since 2020. The generative AI market in India is projected to exceed $17 billion by 2030. The Indian government is also deeply invested in advancing AI initiatives, having launched the IndiaAI mission with an allocation of INR 10,372 crore. This mission focuses on boosting computing capacity, creating dataset platforms, establishing innovation centers, supporting startup funding, and developing AI-related skills. Additionally, the ‘Kalaa Setu Challenge’ invites AI startups to develop scalable multilingual multimedia content solutions for inclusive digital communication.
