Moonvalley Secures $84 Million to Advance Ethical AI Video Generation for Professionals

TLDR: AI research firm Moonvalley has successfully raised an additional $84 million in funding, bringing its total capital to $154 million. Led by General Catalyst, with strategic investments from CAA, CoreWeave, and Comcast Ventures, the funding will accelerate the development and scaling of Moonvalley’s ‘Marey’ AI video model, which is uniquely trained on licensed content to ensure ethical and commercially viable outputs for filmmakers and brands.

Moonvalley, a pioneering AI research company dedicated to developing ethical foundational AI video models, announced today it has secured an additional $84 million in funding. This latest round, led by existing investor General Catalyst, significantly boosts the company’s total funding to an impressive $154 million. The investment underscores a growing industry demand for AI solutions that prioritize intellectual property rights and responsible development.

Strategic investments in this round came from prominent entities including Creative Artists Agency (CAA), AI cloud company CoreWeave, and Comcast Ventures. Existing investors Khosla Ventures and YCombinator also participated, signaling strong continued confidence in Moonvalley’s vision and technology.

Moonvalley distinguishes itself by exclusively training its AI models on licensed content, a commitment highlighted by CEO and co-founder Naeem Talukdar. “This funding proves you don’t have to choose between powerful technology and responsible development,” Talukdar stated. “We’re building world-class models while respecting the creative community, and these partners will help us give studios and creators a real alternative to unlicensed models.” This approach positions Moonvalley as a leader in ethical AI, appealing to major studios and global brands increasingly concerned with content provenance.

At the core of Moonvalley’s offering is ‘Marey,’ its recently launched AI video model. Described as the industry’s ‘first production-grade AI generative videography platform,’ Marey is designed specifically for professional filmmakers and visionary brands, promising cinematic quality, creative control, and commercial-ready outputs. The new capital will be instrumental in scaling the Marey system, expanding its licensed content library, and developing robust API access for developers and internal platform teams. Furthermore, the funding will enable Moonvalley to build out features specifically requested by its studio and enterprise partners, and to hire the necessary engineering and support teams for large-scale deployments.

Moonvalley’s commitment to the filmmaking community is further solidified through its direct collaboration with its filmmaking arm, Asteria, led by Bryn Mooser. This partnership ensures that the AI tools are meticulously tailored to meet the nuanced demands of filmmakers and Hollywood studios.

Mateusz Malinowski, Moonvalley’s Chief Scientific Officer, emphasized the technical prowess behind their innovations: “Our research team is solving the hardest problems in video AI, from understanding real-world physics and natural motion to giving filmmakers frame-level control. We’re proving that licensed models can deliver the quality and precision that professional productions demand.” The company boasts a highly skilled team, with employees drawn from leading technology and entertainment giants such as Google’s DeepMind, Meta, Microsoft, TikTok, Disney, and DreamWorks, all unified by a shared goal of advancing visual intelligence responsibly.
