TLDR: NxtGen, India’s sovereign cloud provider, in collaboration with Bud Ecosystem, has launched ‘M for Coding’, an AI-driven coding assistant. Positioned as an affordable Indian alternative to global tools like Claude Code and Copilot, the platform aims to empower Indian developers by providing high-performance, cost-effective generative AI for coding.
Thiruvananthapuram, India – September 30, 2025 – In a significant move for India’s burgeoning technology sector, NxtGen, a leading sovereign cloud provider, has partnered with Bud Ecosystem to introduce ‘M for Coding’. This new AI-driven coding assistant is designed to serve as an affordable, homegrown alternative to prominent global platforms such as Claude Code and Copilot.
The launch took place at Cypher25, recognized as India’s largest AI summit and expo, underscoring the strategic importance of this initiative. ‘M for Coding’ leverages NxtGen’s broader M GenAI platform, which was itself unveiled in August 2025, and is powered by Bud’s generative AI Foundry. The M GenAI platform is an open-source, agentic generative AI solution built entirely in India, capable of converting human instructions into actionable outcomes.
Linson Joseph, Chief Strategy Officer at Bud Ecosystem, highlighted the platform’s dual advantage. “M for Coding demonstrates that homegrown models can offer both performance and affordability,” Joseph stated at the launch. He further emphasized the initiative’s goal: “By lowering the cost barrier, we hope to empower every Indian developer whether in an enterprise, startup, academic lab, or working independently to build, innovate and contribute without constraint.”
This initiative aligns closely with national programs like Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat, aiming to reduce dependence on foreign technology by providing developers with reliable, locally developed AI tools. The underlying M platform is built on Indian infrastructure, utilizing models such as Llama 4 and DeepSeek 671B, and operates on NVIDIA H200 servers to ensure speed, scalability, multilingual support, and critical data sovereignty. It features a modular orchestration layer that can dynamically select from thousands of open-source large language models, integrate with various APIs, and perform real-world actions.
