MIT Professional Education Unveils New Online Course on Applied Agentic AI for Business Transformation

TLDR: MIT Professional Education has launched an eight-week online course, ‘Applied Agentic AI for Organizational Transformation,’ designed to equip decision-makers with the knowledge and tools to integrate autonomous AI agents into business processes. The program, starting September 30, 2025, focuses on strategic implementation, infrastructure, ethical considerations, and responsible scaling of agentic AI to drive significant organizational change.

MIT Professional Education has announced the launch of a new eight-week online course titled ‘Applied Agentic AI for Organizational Transformation,’ set to begin on September 30, 2025. This program is specifically designed for strategic leaders and innovators, aiming to provide them with the essential tools and frameworks to effectively lead the integration of autonomous AI agents into their business processes.

The course, led by MIT Professor John R. Williams and Dr. Abel Sanchez, Executive Director of MIT’s Geospatial Data Center, delves beyond the foundational aspects of generative AI. It focuses on how autonomous agents can fundamentally transform entire business operations.

Dr. Abel Sanchez emphasized the transformative potential of agentic AI, stating, “Just as cloud reshaped the economics of IT, agents will redefine business operations. In industries such as consulting and business process outsourcing, agents are already outperforming human-led processes with greater speed, consistency, and even empathy. Our course equips leaders to understand this shift, move from efficiency to automation to transformation, and capture agentic AI’s full value.”

The curriculum blends organizational strategy with technical depth, addressing critical infrastructure questions such as selecting appropriate models and platforms, and integrating agents into enterprise-scale digital ecosystems. Participants will engage in hands-on agent building and learn applied strategies for responsible AI scaling, including ethical considerations, and managing the rising costs and power demands associated with running agents at scale.

Professor John R. Williams highlighted the environmental impact, noting, “The energy footprint of agentic computing is intensifying: hyperscalers are already consuming tens of terawatt-hours annually, placing unprecedented strain on the electric grid and driving urgent demand for grid modernization, renewable integration, and AI-optimized power management.”

By the end of the program, participants will be able to assess the strategic impact of generative and agentic AI, identify opportunities for efficiency and transformation, understand necessary infrastructure and models, and design agent-based workflows. The course also covers emerging practices like ‘vibe living’ to lower the expertise required for agent interaction, accelerating enterprise adoption.

Bhaskar Pant, Executive Director of MIT Professional Education, underscored the urgency: “Agentic AI represents an extraordinary opportunity—but the real disruption comes from failing to act quickly. At MIT Professional Education, our mission is to prepare leaders to meet this moment by providing the knowledge and confidence necessary to guide their organizations through successful transformation.”

It is designed for mid-to-senior working professionals, including C-suite executives, business leaders, and those driving digital innovation, who are responsible for selecting, funding, governing, or deploying AI tools. No prior coding knowledge is required. The course is also a component of MIT Professional Education’s Professional Certificate Program in Digital Transformation in the AI Age.
