Cirrus Data Solutions Inc. (CDS), a recognized leader in enterprise-scale automated data mobility, has unveiled a groundbreaking advancement by integrating an AI agent interface into its core block data moving technology. This strategic enhancement, facilitated by the release of its Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server for Cirrus Data Cloud, empowers enterprises to leverage their existing AI agents for fully autonomous data migration operations.
The new capability allows AI agents to directly connect with Cirrus Data Cloud to assess, design, plan, and execute both block storage and compute-level migrations across diverse environments. This includes physical or virtual workloads, moving to on-premises, cloud, or hybrid infrastructures. The system supports leading private and public clouds and hypervisor environments such as Nutanix, AWS, Azure, VMware, Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization, and Oracle Linux Virtualization.
Wayne Lam, Chief Executive Officer at Cirrus Data Solutions, emphasized the transformative potential of this development. “By allowing enterprises to connect their own AI agents directly to Cirrus Data Cloud, we are turning autonomous data mobility into a practical reality that customers can start using today,” Lam stated. He also acknowledged varying paces of AI adoption, adding, “For organizations not yet ready to use AI for data mobility, we continue to enhance our MigrateOps platform for human-directed automations.”
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is central to this integration. It is an open standard, initially introduced by Anthropic in 2024, designed to enable secure, bi-directional API-level communication between AI large language models (LLMs) and agents, and external data sources or tools. MCP Servers process requests from AI clients and return contextual responses, with open-source contributions and SDKs available in Python, TypeScript, C#, and Java.
This integration extends Cirrus Data’s existing automation-first foundation into the era of AI-enabled data mobility, promising to simplify workflows, eliminate tool sprawl, and ensure secure, auditable, and repeatable operations at scale. The company assures that both AI and human-directed approaches leverage the same secure, auditable automation foundation, with data protected in-flight by AES 256-bit encryption and the ability to roll back at any point.
