Alation Introduces Agentic AI Suite for Enhanced Data Governance

TLDR: Alation has unveiled a comprehensive agentic AI suite aimed at transforming critical data governance within organizations. This new offering leverages intelligent agents to automate and streamline data discovery, quality monitoring, and compliance management, ensuring data trustworthiness and operational efficiency.

Alation, a leading data intelligence company, announced on November 13, 2025, the launch of its new agentic AI suite, designed to significantly enhance the governance of critical data within enterprises. This suite introduces advanced AI agents that set standards and establish rules, enabling organizations to seamlessly connect data to key operations and ensure its reliability and trustworthiness.

The introduction of this agentic AI suite marks a pivotal evolution for Alation, building upon its earlier innovations in the AI space. The core of this offering includes components like the Agentic Platform and Agent Builder, which collectively aim to reinvent the data catalog for the artificial intelligence era.

First unveiled on March 3, 2025, Alation’s Agentic Platform utilizes AI agents to automate and guide crucial data management functions such as data discovery, governance, and compliance. Satyen Sangani, co-founder and CEO at Alation, emphasized the transformative potential, stating, “Agentic architectures are the future of AI, and the Alation Agentic Platform has been designed to revolutionize data cataloging for AI by automating data discovery, governance and compliance management with agents.” The platform also includes an AI Agent SDK, supporting Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), which empowers partners and customers to develop their own agents and applications leveraging Alation’s data intelligence capabilities.

Further expanding its agentic AI capabilities, Alation introduced Agent Builder on October 1, 2025. This development suite provides features that simplify the creation and deployment of agentic AI applications using structured data. Agents developed with Agent Builder draw upon a Knowledge Layer to access metadata from Alation’s Agentic Data Intelligence Platform, ensuring they operate with proper business context. Key features of Agent Builder include no-code development options, prebuilt agents for common use cases, connectivity to various data sources via MCP and REST APIs, robust security and governance features, and integrated evaluation tools for accuracy.

Stewart Bond, an analyst at IDC, highlighted the significance of Agent Builder, noting that it “closes the prototype-to-production gap for agents that act on structured data.” He added that these new additions are transforming the user experience “from catalog-centric workflows to working with chat-ready governed data products, automated curation and remediation.” This shift allows data teams to focus on delivering value rather than getting bogged down in complex tools and processes.

Alation’s agentic AI suite addresses the growing demands on data teams, who face increasing data volumes, regulatory requirements, and business needs. By automating time-consuming and manual data management processes, the agents can automatically identify business requirements, resolve incomplete metadata, and apply data governance policies. This approach combines domain knowledge with metadata from the data catalog, creating workflows tailored to each organization’s institutional context, thereby distributing and acting on information previously held by a limited number of data management professionals.
