LONDON, November 11, 2025 – Valerann, a global innovator in intelligent transportation systems (ITS), has announced that its cutting-edge AI-powered road traffic monitoring and incident detection platform, Lanternn by Valerann™, has garnered dual industry awards. This recognition arrives as the platform undergoes a significant nationwide deployment across Ireland’s strategic motorway network, a collaborative effort with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).
The company’s partnership with TII, part of the enhancing Motorway Operation Services (eMOS) program led by Roughan & O’Donovan (ROD) in a joint venture with AECOM, has been honored with the 2025 IBTTA Toll Excellence Award in North America and the European Road Safety Charter Award in Europe. The IBTTA award, specifically in the Private Sector Innovation category, was announced in September, while the European Commission’s Excellence in Road Safety Award 2025 in the Technology category was revealed in October, underscoring the platform’s measurable advancements in safety, performance, and efficiency.
Lanternn by Valerann™ is an AI-powered solution designed to provide real-time situational awareness and significantly faster incident detection. The platform integrates and processes vast volumes of traffic data from multiple sources, including floating car data, roadside sensors, CCTV cameras, navigation applications like Waze, weather reports, and historical incident data. This deep data fusion capability delivers a comprehensive, real-time operational picture to operators at TII’s Motorway Operations Control Centre.
The deployment has already yielded impressive results during its initial evaluation phases. On the M1 motorway, 47% of incidents were detected an average of 25 minutes earlier compared to traditional traffic management methods. Similarly, on the M6, 65% of events were identified 35 minutes faster using Valerann’s AI fusion technology. A notable instance involved the platform detecting a multi-vehicle collision on the M1 southbound within one minute, consolidating 134 individual alerts from five different data sources into a single, actionable event.
These improvements are crucial for enhancing road safety by enabling quicker coordination of responses and minimizing the likelihood of secondary crashes, which are often more severe and avoidable. The system also has the potential to identify one additional actionable event per day, with projections to scale to 20 daily events if deployed nationwide.
