TLDR: Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched a new professional certification for Generative AI Developers and introduced several hands-on learning experiences, including Meeting Simulator, Cohorts Studio, and microcredentials, all aimed at equipping professionals with critical AI skills. These initiatives, available as of November 12, 2025, directly address the growing global AI skills gap, with beta exam registration for the new certification opening on November 18, 2025.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced a significant expansion of its artificial intelligence (AI) training and certification portfolio, introducing a new professional certification and a suite of hands-on learning experiences. These initiatives, rolled out on November 12, 2025, are designed to empower individuals at all skill levels to develop and validate expertise in AI, particularly in the rapidly evolving field of generative AI.
The centerpiece of the announcement is the new AWS Certified Generative AI Developer – Professional certification. Registration for the beta exam for this certification, along with its preparation plan, is set to open on November 18, 2025. This certification targets developers with at least two years of cloud experience, aiming to validate their proficiency in critical areas such as foundation models, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) architectures, and the responsible deployment of AI solutions. The exam is structured to be 205 minutes long and comprises 85 questions, offering an Early Adopter badge to successful beta participants.
Complementing the new certification, AWS has introduced several innovative hands-on learning experiences through AWS Skill Builder:
Meeting Simulator: An AI-powered tool designed to enhance communication skills through simulated workplace scenarios.
Cohorts Studio: A new solution facilitating group-based learning, fostering collaborative skill development.
Microcredentials: These offerings provide a way to validate practical expertise in specialized areas like serverless computing and agentic systems.
These new additions build upon AWS’s existing extensive library of over 220 free AI courses available on AWS Skill Builder, catering to learners from beginners to advanced practitioners in generative AI and agentic AI. The emphasis is on practical application, with solutions that simulate real-world challenges, provide instant feedback, and adapt to individual learning needs, with AI itself enhancing the learning process.
The move comes as the global demand for AI skills continues to surge. The World Economic Forum projects that 40% of core job skills will transform by 2030, and a Skillsoft’s 2024-2025 IT Skills & Salary Report indicates that employers are already paying an average of 47% more for workers possessing AI skills. AWS aims to directly address this critical skills gap by providing a comprehensive learning journey from foundational skill-building to advanced validation and real-world application.
Further enhancing its training offerings, AWS also announced in October 2025 the AWS Jam Beta Gen AI Event Creator, which leverages generative AI to simplify event creation, and six new AWS Builder Labs, providing hands-on practice in the AWS Management Console for various AWS services, including advanced labs for designing and implementing autonomous agents with Amazon Bedrock APIs.
