The core of this transformation lies in Availity’s adoption of Amazon Q Business, Amazon Q Developer, and Amazon Q in QuickSight, alongside Amazon Bedrock. These intelligent solutions are designed to streamline operations through conversational AI, automate routine tasks, enhance information retrieval, and significantly accelerate code development and release management processes across the organization.

One of the most impactful applications is the ability for Availity users to explore its vast two trillion-row dataset in mere seconds using natural language queries via Amazon Q in QuickSight. This dramatically improves productivity by reducing reliance on data analysts and democratizing access to critical insights. The company has also enhanced its internal ‘digital newspaper’ report, using Amazon Q in QuickSight to include explanations of key findings alongside relevant visuals, providing employees with a single, updated source for business metrics and indicators. Furthermore, Availity leverages data stories, a QuickSight capability, to create compelling visual publications that foster a common understanding of business data.

In software development, Availity has embraced AI as an intelligent programming partner. Specialized bots, built using Amazon Bedrock and Amazon Q Business, are integrated directly into development tools and chat systems, assisting engineers with brainstorming solutions and generating code. A notable example is the Production Readiness Bot, which monitors development progress, guides teams through the production process, automates documentation, and flags potential issues early on. This approach has led to remarkable results: Amazon Q Developer now generates 33% of all code, with 31% of its suggestions being accepted. Michael Privat, Availity’s Chief Architect and Chief Data Officer, highlighted the impact, stating, ‘It has saved us hours and a lot of stress,’ referring to the AI-enhanced work environment. He further elaborated, ‘We’ve been able to see about 33% of the code is being written by Q developer. And it’s a huge timesaver for us. I can’t say enough to how supportive AWS has been in our Gen AI journey at Availity. They’ve provided all the support we could ever want to solve business problems and be the foundation of new products.’

The benefits extend beyond code generation. Availity has seen 12,600 security scans conducted autonomously, and release review meetings that once took three hours are now reduced to minutes. In one instance, an engineer resolved an issue in a 30-minute interaction with Amazon Q Developer, a task that would have previously taken a week. Overall, code review processes have become 75% more efficient. This modernization effort, which also includes migrating hundreds of applications to AWS and rebuilding critical Revenue Cycle Management applications, has enabled daily software updates and an 87.5% faster processing of healthcare claims, all while meeting stringent US government cloud security standards like FedRAMP.
