AI Skills Africa has unveiled a transformative fellowship program in partnership with FestMan Learning Hub, with the ambitious goal of training 10,000 African professionals and graduates in generative AI skills by the end of 2026. This initiative, set to launch its inaugural cohort on August 2nd, marks one of the largest AI education efforts in Africa’s history, aiming to propel the continent into a leading position in the global artificial intelligence landscape.
The eight-week hybrid program is meticulously designed to cultivate ‘AI fluency’ – the essential ability to effectively, efficiently, safely, and ethically utilize and apply artificial intelligence to generate business value. Participants will also develop an ‘AI-first mindset,’ equipping them not only to adapt to the evolving future of work but to actively shape it.
This significant undertaking aligns with recent McKinsey research, which suggests that strategic AI adoption could unlock up to $100 billion in annual economic value for Africa. The Fellowship offers fully sponsored, expert-led sessions facilitated by senior professionals from leading global technology companies, including Microsoft, Google, Bloomberg, and FestMan. This provides participants with direct access to cutting-edge insights from industry leaders.
The comprehensive curriculum encompasses both foundational and advanced training. Key areas of focus include prompt engineering, the practical use of various generative AI tools, and real-world applications of AI in the workplace. Specific applications covered include AI-powered data analysis and presentations, automated workflows and AI agents, AI-driven research, content creation, and the development of applications and websites using AI technologies. Participants will gain hands-on experience with widely adopted AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Notion AI.
