TLDR: SandboxAQ, a company specializing in quantitative AI, has successfully raised an additional $95 million through an oversubscribed secondary offering. This latest funding round, primarily aimed at providing liquidity for employees, brings the company’s total capital raised to nearly $1 billion since its spin-off from Alphabet in 2022. The funds will further accelerate the development and application of its Large Quantitative Models (LQMs) across critical sectors like biopharma, cybersecurity, and materials science.
Palo Alto, CA – SandboxAQ, a leader in enterprise quantitative artificial intelligence, announced today the successful closure of an oversubscribed secondary offering, securing an additional $95 million in funding. This strategic move is primarily designed to provide long-term liquidity for the company’s employees, underscoring a commitment to its talent base.
This latest capital injection elevates SandboxAQ’s total funding to nearly $1 billion since its establishment as an independent entity from Alphabet in 2022. The $95 million round saw participation from prominent investors including Rizvi Traverse, Forge Global, and the Ava Family Office. It follows a significant $452 million primary funding round closed in April, which attracted major backers such as Google, NVIDIA, and Ray Dalio.
SandboxAQ is at the forefront of developing Large Quantitative Models (LQMs), a distinct class of AI systems built upon foundational principles of physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics. Unlike conventional language models that focus on text summarization or email drafting, LQMs are engineered to simulate complex real-world systems, delivering precision over probability and simulation over speculation. This unique approach positions SandboxAQ to tackle computationally intensive challenges across a diverse array of industries.
Suhail Rizvi, Managing Director of Rizvi Traverse, expressed strong confidence in the company’s direction, stating, “We chose to take a leading position in the SandboxAQ secondary because we believe quantitative AI is redefining entire industries – and SandboxAQ is pioneering that frontier. Their unique approach to applying AI in domains like cybersecurity, drug discovery, and quantum simulation is unlike anything else we’ve seen in the market. The combination of technical depth, commercial traction, and long-term defensibility make SandboxAQ an exceptional opportunity for us to double down.”
The company’s LQMs are already making significant inroads in sectors such as biopharma, defense, energy, cybersecurity, drug discovery, quantum simulation, materials science, financial services, navigation, and medical devices. Jack D. Hidary, CEO of SandboxAQ, previously highlighted the transformative potential, noting, “Large Quantitative Models are the next wave of AI as they provide a powerful ability to solve science and business problems for large industries including aerospace, biopharma, chemicals, defense, energy, finance, and more.” He also emphasized that “LLMs and LQMs are complementary platforms that are both needed in the world of B2B applications.”
