TLDR: Vasco Pedro, co-founder of the successful translation company Unbabel, has launched his new startup, Spinnable. The platform aims to democratize access to AI agents for small and medium-sized businesses, enabling them to ‘recruit’ AI workers to automate tasks and scale operations. Spinnable has already secured €2 million in pre-seed funding.
Lisbon, Portugal – November 12, 2025 – Vasco Pedro, the visionary entrepreneur and former co-founder of the machine-assisted translation giant Unbabel, has officially launched his latest venture, Spinnable. This new startup is set to revolutionize how small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) leverage artificial intelligence by offering a platform for creating and ‘recruiting’ AI agents.
Pedro’s motivation stems from a clear observation of the current technological landscape: ‘Large companies now have a lot of resources allocated to artificial intelligence, but small companies are left behind because it is difficult for a company with 5 or 6 people,’ he stated. He emphasized the challenge for businesses, such as a property refurbishment company, that are focused on their core operations and lack the resources to hire AI-proficient staff, thus losing competitiveness. Spinnable aims to bridge this gap, allowing SMEs to scale their operations without being constrained by human hiring limitations.
Spinnable’s AI agents are designed to perform a wide array of tasks traditionally handled by human employees. These ‘AI workers’ can follow up on Slack, answer customer inquiries, reply in threads, proactively reach out to clients, keep tools updated, manage calendars, draft roadmaps, conduct industry research, and analyze spreadsheets. Pedro highlights their ‘human-like’ qualities, including the ability to develop personalities and operate at significantly higher speeds than human counterparts. ‘What we’re saying is that business success should not depend on the number of people that you can hire,’ Pedro explained, underscoring the platform’s core philosophy.
The startup has already garnered significant investor confidence, successfully raising approximately €2 million in a pre-seed funding round. This round was led by prominent investors including Heartcore, Florent Venture Partners (Florent.vc), and Alphagraph. The initial team at Spinnable comprises 15 individuals, notably with 10 of them being AI agents themselves, demonstrating the company’s commitment to its own technology. Key human team members include Gil Coelho, former Head of Product at Unbabel, and Fábio Kepler, who previously served as Unbabel’s Director of AI Research.

Pedro, who led Unbabel for a decade before its acquisition by U.S. translation company TransPerfect, has returned to Portugal with Spinnable. The platform is currently operating with a waiting list for users, with a comprehensive market launch anticipated within the next year. The company’s strategic focus is on maintaining a lean team and prioritizing profitability, ensuring that the product delivers tangible value that businesses are willing to invest in. Spinnable promises to make human-AI collaboration more intuitive, allowing non-technical users to interact with AI agents conversationally, eliminating the need for complex interfaces or workflows.
