TLDR: Zoom has launched AI Companion 3.0 at its Zoomtopia 2025 conference, introducing advanced ‘agentic AI’ capabilities designed to automate tasks and enhance productivity across its platform and compatible third-party applications. Key features include cross-platform note-taking, outcome-focused prompts, real-time voice translation, and lifelike AI avatars. A new ‘Custom AI Companion’ add-on allows organizations to build tailored AI agents for $12 per user per month, while core features will be available at no extra cost for paid Zoom Workplace accounts starting November 2025.
Zoom Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: ZM) has officially unveiled AI Companion 3.0 at its annual Zoomtopia 2025 conference, marking a significant leap in workplace automation through advanced ‘agentic AI’ capabilities. The new iteration of AI Companion is designed to transform everyday interactions into actionable outcomes, reinforcing Zoom’s commitment to being an AI-first collaboration platform. The core features of AI Companion 3.0 are expected to be generally available in November 2025, at no additional cost for paid Zoom Workplace accounts.
At the heart of AI Companion 3.0 is its ability to retrieve and synthesize vast amounts of data. This includes internal enterprise data such as meeting transcripts, chat history, and shared documents, alongside external market research, to provide users with rich, contextual information. This intelligent system aims to help users cut through digital noise and focus on critical tasks.
One of the standout features is the expanded note-taking functionality. AI Companion can now be brought into in-person meetings and meetings hosted on third-party platforms like Microsoft Teams and Google Meet (expected September 2025), with support for Cisco Webex anticipated at a later date. Users can jot down quick thoughts, and the AI Companion will capture, expand upon, and organize key takeaways. Furthermore, if a user is unable to attend a meeting, the AI agent can attend in their place, taking notes, extracting action items, and providing updates based on user preferences.
AI Companion 3.0 also introduces outcome-focused prompts, guiding users to identify and prioritize tasks across various communication channels, including meetings, phone calls, chats, and emails. A new work surface will be accessible via web browsers and the Zoom desktop application, providing a unified hub for these automated workflows. Enhancements also include real-time voice translation for meetings, boasting markedly higher accuracy compared to competing solutions, and the introduction of photorealistic AI avatars that can represent users in virtual meetings, particularly useful in less-than-ideal environments or when users prefer not to appear on video.
Smita Hashim, Chief Product Officer at Zoom, emphasized the transformative potential, stating, “Around the world, millions of people are using Zoom to connect with their colleagues and customers, but they could be getting so much more out of those conversations with the help of AI. AI Companion 3.0 will provide deeper insights from their conversations to help them get more done at work and drive better business outcomes, regardless of whether they’re working in Zoom Workplace, in person, or across compatible apps and integrations.” She further elaborated on the system’s intelligence, noting, “Zoom’s agentic AI is built on memory. It knows who you are, it knows your preferences, your interests and uses that information to improve your outcomes.”
For organizations seeking more tailored solutions, Zoom introduced the ‘Custom AI Companion’ add-on. This feature empowers users with a low-code builder to create and deploy bespoke AI agents and tailored AI solutions. The Custom AI Companion add-on will be available for an additional cost of $12 per user per month.
Beyond collaboration, Zoom is extending agentic AI to its Business Services portfolio. Updates include ‘Agentic AI Expert Assist’ for automating customer support tasks, ‘CX Insights’ for deriving business intelligence from customer data, and ‘Automated Quality Management’ for overseeing both human and virtual agent interactions. The Zoom Virtual Agent (ZVA) will also feature a ‘bring your own voice’ capability, allowing companies to create consistent and on-brand conversational experiences. For sales teams, ‘Zoom Revenue Accelerator’ gains an AI-driven prospecting skill that identifies promising leads and initiates tailored outreach.
Leo Boulton, head of product and solutions at Zoom, highlighted the administrative burden reduction: “AI Companion can proactively assist you in the right place and at the right time with capabilities that help you prepare, synthesize key information, gain customer insights and even more across your workflows. Pretty much reducing all that administrative overhead while accelerating those meaningful results that you need.”
