TLDR: Payments technology leader Worldpay has partnered with digital identity platform Trulioo to introduce advanced safeguards for the burgeoning field of agentic commerce. This collaboration aims to embed trust, prevent fraud, and ensure accountability in transactions increasingly managed by artificial intelligence agents, leveraging Trulioo’s ‘Know Your Agent’ (KYA) framework.
In a significant move to secure the future of digital transactions, global payments technology powerhouse Worldpay announced on August 14, 2025, a strategic partnership with Trulioo, a leading digital identity platform. This collaboration is set to deliver crucial safeguards for the emerging era of ‘agentic commerce,’ where artificial intelligence (AI) agents conduct transactions on behalf of consumers.
As AI agents become more prevalent in online shopping and other commercial activities, the need for robust mechanisms to verify their legitimacy, ensure consumer consent, and prevent fraudulent activities has become paramount. The partnership directly addresses these challenges by integrating Trulioo’s innovative ‘Know Your Agent’ (KYA) framework into Worldpay’s extensive payment ecosystem.
The KYA framework, powered by a ‘Digital Agent Passport,’ is designed to be a tamper-proof credential bundle. It will enable merchants to rigorously assess whether an AI agent is legitimate, properly authorized, and operating with explicit consumer consent. This includes structured guidelines for verifying the developer’s identity, ensuring code integrity, confirming user consent, and continuously monitoring the agent’s trustworthiness in real-time.
Cindy Turner, Chief Product Officer at Worldpay, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, ‘Innovation in payments must always be grounded in integrity and trust. By partnering with Trulioo, we’re delivering the trust infrastructure our ecosystem needs and empowering businesses and consumers to embrace AI-powered commerce with confidence, knowing that safety and transparency are at the heart of every transaction.’
Vicky Bindra, CEO of Trulioo, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the foundational aspect of their joint effort: ‘Agentic commerce has significant potential, but it can only scale with trust built in from the start. With Worldpay, we’re laying the foundation for a more secure and accountable digital ecosystem – one where AI agents can operate transparently, and consumers stay in control.’
For merchants, this partnership promises substantial benefits, including the ability to grow sales by confidently allowing access to verified AI agents, while simultaneously safeguarding against fraud and unauthorized purchases. The collaboration will also facilitate smarter checkout flows and enhanced real-time fraud detection, without sacrificing safety or visibility. Instead of outright blocking AI agents, the system will introduce intelligent controls, granting verified agents seamless access, introducing friction for unknown agents, and blocking malicious bots.
