TLDR: Workday has completed its acquisition of Sana, an AI company specializing in enterprise knowledge tools. This strategic move aims to integrate Sana’s AI-powered search, agents, and learning capabilities into Workday’s platform, creating a unified, AI-native ‘new front door for work’ that delivers proactive, personalized, and intelligent employee experiences.
Workday, Inc. (NASDAQ: WDAY), a prominent enterprise AI platform for managing people, money, and agents, officially announced the completion of its acquisition of Sana on November 4, 2025. Sana, recognized as a leading AI company focused on developing next-generation enterprise knowledge tools, will now be integrated into Workday’s ecosystem to enhance its AI-native enterprise experience.
This acquisition is poised to transform Workday into a ‘new front door for work,’ a unified interface where a company’s most critical applications and insights converge. The goal is to enable employees to seamlessly start and complete their daily tasks within Workday, eliminating the need to switch between various applications. The deal, initially valued at approximately $1.1 billion, combines Sana’s advanced AI-powered search, agent builder, and learning functionalities with Workday’s extensive data and context related to people and finance.
Key offerings from Sana include ‘Sana Agents,’ which extends enterprise AI beyond basic search and chat. This feature allows users to leverage a no-code agent builder to create AI agents grounded in organizational data. These agents are designed to automate repetitive workflows, analyze data, and proactively act on behalf of employees, thereby accelerating work processes. Additionally, ‘Sana Learn’ introduces a comprehensive, AI-native learning platform encompassing learning management, analytics, content generation, and personalized tutoring. This will complement Workday Learning’s existing robust system for record-keeping, governance, and compliance, creating a holistic enterprise-grade learning suite tailored for an AI-first world.
According to Gerrit Kazmier, president of product and technology at Workday, ‘By bringing Sana’s leading enterprise knowledge and learning to Workday, we’re creating a single, intelligent interface that connects the systems, data, and actions employees rely on — becoming the new front door for work.’ He further stated that this move will ‘unlock a new era of productivity, focus, and flow across our customers’ organizations with a complete AI solution for the next-generation enterprise.’ Joel Hellermark, CEO of Sana, echoed this sentiment, remarking, ‘Sana exists to build the UI for AI and bring superintelligence to work. Joining Workday means we can drastically accelerate our vision and together create a seamless way for organizations to access knowledge, automate repetitive work, and learn with agentic AI.’

Workday’s strategy involves establishing a horizontal intelligence layer across the enterprise. This layer will unify data and workflows from various applications and platforms, ensuring a consistent, AI-powered experience where knowledge, data, and actions are seamlessly integrated. The combined learning suite (Sana Learn and Workday Learning) and an agent-driven experience are anticipated to launch next year, promising more personalized and proactive employee interactions that intelligently anticipate individual needs based on their role, team, and projects.
