TLDR: WinZO, India’s leading social gaming platform, is significantly expanding its Global Center of Excellence (GCoE) in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS). This initiative, launched in November 2024, aims to empower over 2,000 gaming startups by providing mentorship, cloud tools, and global opportunities, with a strong emphasis on leveraging generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) to accelerate game development, personalize experiences, and enhance India’s position in the global gaming market.
WinZO, India’s largest vernacular social gaming and interactive entertainment platform, boasting over 250 million active users, is scaling its Global Center of Excellence (GCoE) through a strategic collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS). This expansion is set to significantly bolster India’s burgeoning gaming and interactive entertainment ecosystem.
The GCoE, a flagship initiative by WinZO, was initially launched in November 2024 in partnership with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. The expanded collaboration with AWS is designed to empower more than 2,000 startups by offering them crucial mentorship, access to advanced cloud tools, and pathways to global opportunities.
A key focus of this initiative is the integration of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI). The GCoE will establish a dedicated platform that harnesses the transformative potential of Gen AI to assist entrepreneurs in India’s interactive entertainment sector. By leveraging AWS Gen AI solutions, game studios across India will be able to accelerate game development, scale their operations more efficiently, and upskill local gaming talent through AWS cloud mentoring and training. This includes utilizing technologies like Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker to streamline content creation, localize gameplay, personalize user experiences, automate game testing, and provide multilingual support.
This strategic move is expected to drive significant innovations within the industry, such as the development of new game engines for designing virtual worlds, fostering more immersive and safer gaming experiences, and ultimately enhancing the global competitiveness of India’s gaming sector. The Indian gaming industry is on a rapid growth trajectory, with projections indicating an expansion from US$3.7 billion in 2024 to US$9.1 billion by 2029. Globally, the gaming industry is valued at a staggering US$324 billion, surpassing the combined size of the movie and music industries, underscoring the immense opportunity for India to expand its digital footprint.
WinZO, with its diverse portfolio of over 100 ‘Made in India’ games available in 15 languages, is uniquely positioned to integrate AWS’s skilling and Gen AI capabilities with the evolving needs of the Indian gaming and game developer community. Beyond technological support, the initiative addresses the gaming skills gap in India by offering structured learning programs through AWS Training and Certification, and providing access to the AWS Skills to Jobs Tech Alliance. Early-stage gaming startups will also benefit from AWS accelerator programs, receiving cloud credits, expert mentorship from AWS and WinZO partners, and go-to-market support.
As part of this collaboration, WinZO has also launched WinZO IGNITE, a hackathon series aimed at solving pressing technical challenges within the sector, with plans to expand to global participants in future editions.
