Brussels, Belgium – VoxelSensors, a pioneering deep-tech company specializing in novel intelligent sensing and data insights for Physical AI, has officially announced a strategic collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. The partnership focuses on optimizing VoxelSensors’ groundbreaking Single Photon Active Event Sensor (SPAES™) 3D sensing technology for seamless integration with Qualcomm’s advanced Snapdragon XR Platforms, particularly the Snapdragon AR2 Gen 1 Platform. This alliance is poised to drive significant advancements in next-generation Extended Reality (XR) applications and the broader field of Physical AI.
The core of this collaboration lies in addressing critical limitations in current depth sensing technology. VoxelSensors’ SPAES™ technology is designed to operate on an event-driven basis, capturing light changes at the single-photon level to generate precise voxel images of the environment. This approach offers substantial advantages over traditional 3D sensors that capture full images at regular intervals.
Key benefits of the optimized solution include a remarkable 10x reduction in power consumption, requiring less than 10 milliwatts of energy, making it significantly more energy-efficient than conventional image-based models. Furthermore, the technology boasts an ultra-low latency of under 5 milliseconds, enabling exceptionally fast data processing. These features are vital for the development of lightweight, all-day wearable AR glasses that demand minimal energy consumption and low heat generation. The technology is also designed to perform reliably across diverse environments, including indoors and outdoors, and under varying lighting conditions.
