TransferData Inc., a Tokyo-based company led by CEO Yusuke Murata, has announced a significant funding achievement, securing approximately ¥9 billion (around $60 million USD) in a Series C funding round. The investment, backed by Japan Venture Capital (NVCC) and Canal Ventures, is earmarked to accelerate the development and phased rollout of its innovative ‘Travel Intelligence Agent’ service, a generative AI-powered solution designed to transform business travel management.
The new ‘Travel Intelligence Agent’ will be integrated into TransferData’s existing cloud-based business travel management service, ‘AI Travel.’ The company aims to establish Japan’s first AI Agent concept in the business travel sector, promising a more comfortable and efficient experience for business travelers.
Currently, ‘AI Travel’ already offers AI-driven features such as an AI concierge and bulk search functionalities. The upcoming ‘Travel Intelligence Agent’ will introduce a suite of advanced capabilities, with a gradual release schedule:
Accommodation Location Slide Function: Expected in Fall 2025, this feature will recommend alternative, more affordable accommodation locations within travel expense guidelines, even if the primary destination’s hotels are overpriced. This is particularly beneficial for travelers unfamiliar with the area.
Optimal/Automatic Itinerary Proposal Function: Slated for Winter 2025, this function will analyze calendar schedules (integrating with Google Calendar™ and Microsoft Outlook®) to propose optimal itineraries, reducing manual planning and preventing scheduling conflicts. It will also offer push notifications via the ‘AI Travel’ app (pending store approval as of July 2025) for recommended itineraries when ‘business trip’ keywords are detected.
Sales Meeting Optimization Function: Scheduled for Spring 2026, this will likely assist in optimizing travel plans around sales engagements.
Approval Assist Function: Also set for Spring 2026, this feature will streamline the approval workflow by automatically drafting complex workflows based on past travel history and destination.
The global business travel market is a colossal industry, estimated at approximately ¥204 trillion, with Japan’s domestic market contributing around ¥11 trillion. Despite its size, the sector has long been plagued by inefficiencies. Traditionally, business travelers face cumbersome individual bookings for flights, hotels, and rental cars, coupled with the burden of upfront payments and tedious expense reconciliation. For accounting departments, business travel expenses can account for up to 60% of total expense reconciliation tasks, highlighting a significant operational strain.
TransferData’s ‘AI Travel’ platform addresses these challenges by leveraging proprietary data normalization technology and flexible integration with existing expense and accounting systems. It provides a one-stop solution that automates everything from booking, application, and approval to accounting journal entries. Furthermore, its AI capabilities offer real-time insights for optimal itineraries and cost reduction strategies.

As of July 2025, ‘AI Travel’ serves over 350 companies and more than 120,000 business professionals. Investors, including Japan Venture Capital, expressed confidence in TransferData’s growth, noting the challenging yet high-potential market of business travel arrangement and management, characterized by the need for operational efficiency, vast market size, and high system development difficulty. The company’s vision is to achieve a business traveler experience where an ‘AI Agent constantly anticipates needs and proposes optimal solutions,’ extending its AI application to back-office operations by utilizing 10 years of normalized travel data, market price data, travel expense regulations, calendar information, and past travel trends as contextual information. This comprehensive approach aims to significantly boost the productivity of corporate travel-related operations and contribute to overall business efficiency in Japan.
