SK Hynix Launches ‘Gaia’ AI Platform to Revolutionize Semiconductor Operations

TLDR: SK Hynix has officially unveiled ‘Gaia,’ a new generative artificial intelligence platform specifically designed to optimize semiconductor manufacturing processes and enhance internal operational efficiency. This platform introduces a suite of AI agents and services, including specialized tools for equipment maintenance, HR, and a company-wide LLM chat service, marking a significant step in the company’s AI transformation roadmap.

SK Hynix announced on August 14, 2025, the launch of ‘Gaia,’ a proprietary generative artificial intelligence (AI) platform tailored for the intricate demands of semiconductor operations. This strategic move aims to significantly boost employee creativity and productivity by enabling the development of customized AI agents for various departments and tasks within the company’s secure network. The platform is a cornerstone of SK Hynix’s broader initiative to reinforce its global AI infrastructure and foster an advanced AI ecosystem for comprehensive digital transformation.

Gaia is designed to facilitate a ‘human-in-the-loop’ feedback system, allowing for continuous refinement of workflows and ensuring the AI tools are highly effective and relevant. The company has already rolled out three key in-house generative AI services based on the Gaia platform:

Firstly, business-specific AI agents entered beta in July. These specialized tools are designed for critical functions such as equipment maintenance, global policy and technology analysis, human resources (HR) system management, and meeting support, directly impacting semiconductor production and manufacturing efficiency.

Secondly, ‘LLM Chat,’ SK Hynix’s exclusive ChatGPT-like service, became available in beta to all company members in early August. This question-and-answer service leverages internal data and knowledge to enhance overall work efficiency for employees.

Lastly, ‘A. Biz,’ an AI assistant service, is slated for unveiling in November. Developed in collaboration with SK Telecom, ‘A. Biz’ will support both general office tasks, such as drafting meeting minutes and reports, and specialized functions across departments including purchasing, recruitment, tax affairs, legal matters, and public relations. The goal is seamless integration with the Gaia platform.

SK Hynix detailed that these AI services align with its ambitious generative AI roadmap. The company’s progression began in 2023 with the adoption of Native RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) and Large Language Models (LLMs). This was followed by a focus on integrating AI agents and task tools in 2024. For 2025, the roadmap emphasizes ‘agent-centric AI’ with advanced agent orchestration capabilities. The ultimate vision is to achieve ‘Agent to Agent (A2A)’ — a system where AI agents can autonomously communicate, divide roles, and collaboratively solve complex problems.
