Siemens and Snowflake Partner to Unify Industrial Data for AI-Driven Efficiency

TLDR: Siemens and Snowflake have announced a strategic collaboration aimed at enabling IT/OT convergence for industrial customers. This partnership will leverage Siemens Industrial Edge and Snowflake’s AI Data Cloud to connect operational technology (OT) data from the shop floor with information technology (IT) data, facilitating enhanced operational efficiency, scalability, and AI-driven insights for manufacturers globally.

Siemens, a global technology powerhouse, and Snowflake, the AI Data Cloud company, have unveiled a significant partnership designed to revolutionize data management and analytics for industrial customers. The collaboration focuses on achieving seamless IT/OT convergence, allowing manufacturers to integrate critical operational technology (OT) data from their factory floors with broader information technology (IT) data, including supply chain management and financial information. This integration is set to unlock new levels of operational efficiency, scale, and AI-driven insights across the manufacturing sector.

The core of this partnership lies in connecting Siemens Industrial Edge with Snowflake’s AI Data Cloud. This synergy will empower manufacturers to utilize plug-and-play Industrial Edge applications to contextualize and securely transfer OT data into IT systems. The result is the establishment of a robust data foundation, which is deemed essential for gaining deeper insights, improving machine performance, increasing machine availability, and optimizing production processes throughout their facilities.

Rainer Brehm, CEO of Factory Automation at Siemens, emphasized the complementary strengths of the two companies, stating, “Siemens has deep expertise in how to bring OT and IT together on the shop floor, while Snowflake excels in managing and analyzing both large-scale OT and IT data.” This sentiment was echoed by Christian Kleinerman, Executive Vice President of Product at Snowflake, who highlighted the transformative potential: “The ability to apply AI across both IT and OT data isn’t just an advancement; it unlocks a new reality of possibilities for unparalleled quality improvement and radical performance optimization, as well as new ways of process automation powered by AI agents.”

The joint solution is specifically designed to address common challenges faced by production managers, data engineers, and IT leaders, such as data silos, limited transparency, and inefficient analytics. Siemens Industrial Edge facilitates the seamless integration of OT data by connecting to a wide array of sources, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), sensors, and other manufacturing systems. It also pre-processes data at the edge and runs transformed OT data models, including AI models, in a closed-loop with production automation. Snowflake’s platform then delivers actionable insights through AI-powered analytics and agentic AI capabilities, leading to measurable boosts in operational efficiency, higher machine performance, enhanced product quality, and reduced maintenance needs.

An early adopter and key example of this integration is FFT, a leading global provider of innovative manufacturing systems. FFT is already leveraging the Siemens Industrial Edge ecosystem and its DataBridge app to securely, scalably, and efficiently transfer production data into the Snowflake AI Data Cloud. This solution is implemented within FFT’s own production lines, demonstrating its capability to meet stringent standards for efficiency and data-driven optimization. The Siemens-Snowflake collaboration further supports FFT’s role as an integrator and trusted Snowflake partner for automated and flexible production systems across the mobility and industrial sectors, also underscoring FFT’s status as a Siemens Xcelerator partner.
