Salesforce, Stripe, and OpenAI Unveil AI-Powered Agentic Commerce for Instant Checkout

Salesforce has announced a significant collaboration with financial technology giant Stripe and artificial intelligence research company OpenAI to revolutionize online shopping through an AI-powered Instant Checkout integration. This initiative, built upon the newly established Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP), aims to deliver a dramatically faster and more personalized path to purchase for merchants utilizing Salesforce’s Agentforce Commerce platform.

The Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP), co-developed by Stripe and OpenAI, provides a standardized framework that allows retailers to deploy AI agents for managing customer interactions and facilitating instant checkouts. This protocol is designed to enable businesses to capture demand at the point of discovery and accelerate the purchasing journey.

A key aspect of this partnership is the deployment of conversational AI to streamline the purchasing process, enhancing both consumer experience and operational efficiency for retailers. The integration will allow buyers to complete transactions through conversational AI interfaces and support various payment methods, including Stripe’s consumer payments product, Link. Stripe’s robust infrastructure will underpin the payment process, ensuring a secure platform for transactions within this new agentic commerce model.

Salesforce research indicates a growing consumer acceptance of AI-assisted shopping, with nearly half (48%) of shoppers who currently use AI for shopping expressing openness to having an AI agent make purchases autonomously on their behalf. This data underscores a significant shift from traditional online shopping models and highlights the increasing readiness for agentic commerce, where AI agents manage transactions.

Nitin Mangtani, GM of Commerce Cloud and Retail at Salesforce, emphasized the transformative potential of this collaboration, stating, “Through our collaboration with Stripe and OpenAI on the ACP, we are delivering the unified system designed for the future of agentic commerce, creating a dramatically faster and more personalized path to purchase. This fundamental shift empowers our merchants to drive revenue growth and build deeper customer loyalty across a platform where shoppers already reside.”

Maia Josebachvili, Chief Revenue Officer of AI at Stripe, added, “We’re excited to partner with Salesforce to help merchants using Agentforce Commerce thrive in the agentic commerce era. Together with OpenAI, we’re enabling businesses to reach millions of new buyers by helping turn discovery into purchase inside ChatGPT.”

The integration is expected to offer several benefits, including an enhanced shopper experience through personalized and conversational journeys, and higher sales and conversions by capturing real-time intent and providing frictionless checkout. Salesforce also unveiled “Guided Shopping for Agentforce Commerce,” which enables retailers to build branded shopper agents directly on their digital storefronts. These agents integrate with Salesforce’s Customer 360 components, including Marketing, Service, Order Management, and Data 360, to deliver hyper-personalized experiences from product recommendations to order tracking.
