TLDR: Ring has launched ‘Single Event Alert,’ a new feature leveraging generative AI to intelligently group recurring events captured by its cameras, thereby significantly reducing the number of unnecessary notifications. This update, available to Ring Protect Home subscribers in the US (excluding Illinois) and Canada, aims to enhance user experience by providing a single alert for ongoing activities, such as children playing in a backyard, rather than continuous pings.
Ring, the smart home security company, announced on Thursday, November 6, 2025, the rollout of its new ‘Single Event Alert’ feature, designed to drastically cut down on redundant notifications. This innovative system utilizes generative artificial intelligence to identify and group recurring events, ensuring users receive only one alert for an ongoing activity rather than multiple pings.
Historically, Ring cameras would trigger an alert every time motion was detected within their field of vision. Early versions of Ring doorbells were even sensitive enough to send notifications for minor environmental changes, such as a large truck passing by. This often led to ‘alert fatigue,’ where users were overwhelmed by constant notifications for non-critical events.
The company provides the example of children playing in a backyard: previously, this would generate an alert each time motion was detected. With Single Event Alert, once the system identifies that it’s simply the kids playing, it will notify the user once and then suppress further alerts for that continuous event, allowing users to focus on other tasks without constant interruptions.
This development marks Ring’s continued integration of AI into its security offerings. It follows other recent AI-driven enhancements, including ‘Smart Video Search’ and ‘AI Video Descriptions,’ which provide concise, action-focused summaries of motion events. These features collectively aim to deliver more actionable insights and improve the overall utility of Ring’s smart cameras.

Single Event Alert is being made available to Ring Protect Home subscribers across the United States (with the exception of Illinois) and Canada, starting today. This strategic move underscores the growing trend among major tech companies to leverage AI to make notifications more intelligent and user-friendly, addressing a common pain point in smart home security systems.
