TLDR: Reliance Jio has officially launched ‘JioFrames’, a new line of AI-powered smart glasses, at its 48th Annual General Meeting. Positioned as a hands-free, AI-driven companion, JioFrames are designed with a focus on the Indian lifestyle, offering multilingual voice assistance and seamless integration with Jio’s AI Cloud for various daily tasks.
NEW DELHI – Reliance Jio, a prominent telecommunications giant, today unveiled its highly anticipated ‘JioFrames’ – a new generation of AI-powered smart glasses – during the company’s 48th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday, August 29, 2025. This launch marks Jio’s significant entry into the burgeoning AI-powered wearables market, directly challenging existing players like Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses.
Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, introduced JioFrames as ‘an AI-powered wearable platform, an ecosystem made for India with support for multiple Indian languages.’ He emphasized that the device is a ‘hands-free, AI-powered companion designed for the way India lives, works and plays.’
JioFrames are positioned as more than just a gadget; they are a lifestyle tool meticulously crafted for Indian consumers. The company aims to integrate AI directly into everyday situations, pushing ‘intelligence right in front of your eyes, beyond smartphones.’
Key Features and Functionalities:
AI-Powered Voice Assistant: A core highlight is Jio’s built-in multilingual AI voice assistant, which supports several Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, and Bengali. This allows users to interact with the glasses in their preferred language, a significant differentiator from competitors like Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, which primarily support English, Spanish, and Italian.
Hands-Free Capture: JioFrames enable users to capture high-definition (HD) photos, record videos, and even go live on social media without needing to reach for a smartphone.
Jio AI Cloud Integration: All captured images and videos are automatically backed up to the Jio AI Cloud, ensuring users never have to worry about storage.
Real-time Contextual Assistance: The smart glasses offer a range of real-time, task-specific assistance. Examples include guiding users through recipes step-by-step while cooking, providing quick summaries of books, offering travel information, and identifying landmarks.
Open-Ear Speakers: Discreetly built into the frame, open-ear speakers allow users to take calls, attend meetings, listen to music, or catch up on podcasts, all while maintaining awareness of their surroundings.
Reliance Jio’s strategy is to leverage its extensive Jio AI ecosystem to make JioFrames an extension of its broader digital services, placing Jio at the center of how Indians interact with AI in their daily lives.
During the AGM, Reliance also announced a new AI joint venture with Meta, with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg making an appearance. Zuckerberg expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, ‘At Meta, we want to deliver personal superintelligence to everyone. We believe that this technology has the potential to bring a new era of personal empowerment to people.’ He also mentioned that Meta and Reliance plan to deliver open-source AI models to Indian businesses.
