Red Cell Partners Unveils Trase: A New AI Platform for Regulated Industries Secures $10.5 Million Pre-Seed Funding

TLDR: Red Cell Partners has officially launched Trase, an innovative AI platform designed to facilitate the ‘last mile’ adoption of artificial intelligence in highly regulated sectors such as healthcare, national security, and energy. The company announced it has successfully secured $10.5 million in pre-seed funding to advance its mission of deploying autonomous agents and specialized language models. Former AWS and Microsoft executive Baskar Sridharan has been appointed President to lead Trase’s strategic growth and operational deployment.

McLean, VA – Red Cell Partners, a venture studio focused on building technology-led companies, has announced the public launch of Trase, an advanced agentic AI platform aimed at transforming operations within complex, highly regulated industries. The company has successfully raised $10.5 million in pre-seed funding, with contributions from Red Cell Partners and Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation (VIPC)’s Virginia Venture Partners.

Trase is engineered to deliver and operationalize end-to-end AI agent applications and edge-deployed specialized language models. Its core mission is to bridge the gap in AI adoption, particularly in sectors where regulatory complexities and the need for secure, compliant solutions have historically hindered widespread implementation. Grant Verstandig, founder of Red Cell Partners and co-founder and CEO of Trase, emphasized this vision, stating, “Trase was built to solve for the last mile of adoption by delivering agentic solutions that enable organizations to successfully deploy AI and unlock its full promise.” He further added, “Since our inception, we’ve been relentlessly refining our proprietary platform for orchestration and reinforcement learning, building turnkey autonomous agents for healthcare, defense, and energy industries.”

The platform’s development commenced in September 2024, and since then, Trase’s researchers have consistently demonstrated superior performance, topping Hugging Face’s GAIA leaderboard—a key benchmark for evaluating AI systems on multi-step reasoning, multimodal data handling, real-time web browsing, and general tool usage. The company boasts a technical team of over 30 staff members and has already begun deploying agents for Duke Health, in addition to securing a contract with the Department of the Navy.

To lead its strategic direction and operational deployment, Trase has appointed Baskar Sridharan as its President. Sridharan brings extensive experience from his tenure as vice president and GM of AI/ML services and infrastructure at Amazon Web Services (AWS), and a 16-year career at Microsoft. Reflecting on his motivation to join Trase, Sridharan noted the challenges engineers face in translating AI prototypes into viable products in large organizations. He highlighted the critical need for Trase’s solutions in its target markets, stating, “These are the most complex industries, and they are really overburdened with a lot of administrative tasks.”
