OpenAI Unveils ChatGPT Pulse: Daily Personalized AI Briefings for Pro Users

TLDR: OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Pulse, a new mobile-only feature for Pro subscribers that transforms the AI chatbot into a proactive personal assistant. It delivers daily personalized research summaries based on user interactions, feedback, and integrated apps like Gmail and Google Calendar, aiming to provide relevant updates without explicit prompts.

OpenAI has introduced a significant new feature, ChatGPT Pulse, marking a strategic shift for its flagship AI chatbot from a reactive query-response tool to a proactive, personalized daily assistant. Announced on September 25, 2025, Pulse is currently rolling out as a preview exclusively for ChatGPT Pro subscribers, who pay $200 per month, and is available on the ChatGPT mobile application. OpenAI has indicated plans for broader availability, including for Plus subscribers ($20 per month), once the system is optimized for efficiency and compute costs.

ChatGPT Pulse is designed to deliver a curated set of personalized updates to users each morning. This innovative feature operates by performing asynchronous background research, synthesizing information from a user’s memory, chat history, explicit feedback (thumbs-up/down), and data from optionally connected applications such as Gmail and Google Calendar. The output is presented as ‘scannable visual cards’ that offer brief summaries and deep links for further exploration, rather than an endless feed. Early examples of its utility include targeted news roundups, context-conditioned suggestions like travel planning aligned with calendar events, healthy meal ideas, or reminders for important occasions.

Fidji Simo, CEO of applications at OpenAI, highlighted the vision behind Pulse, stating, “That’s what the best human assistants do.” Simo further noted that “wealthy people have always had access to assistants who understand their preferences, anticipate their needs, and can help with everything from managing appointments and booking trips to shopping for clothes.” This initiative aims to democratize access to such personalized assistance through AI.

Data privacy and user control are central to Pulse’s design. Integrations with external services like Gmail and Google Calendar are off by default, requiring explicit user opt-in through settings. OpenAI emphasizes that users can curate the research by providing direct feedback, which the system remembers and uses to improve future suggestions.

As a preview feature, Pulse has acknowledged limitations. OpenAI states that it “won’t always get things right” and users “may still see suggestions that miss the mark,” such as tips for already completed projects. However, the system is designed to learn and improve from real-world use and user feedback.

While AI-powered personal daily digests are not entirely new, with built-in versions available on flagship phones from Google and Samsung, ChatGPT Pulse offers a platform-agnostic solution that leverages ChatGPT’s conversational data. This positions OpenAI to potentially capture a significant user base, particularly those on iOS, by offering a comprehensive, context-aware AI assistant that anticipates user needs.
