NVIDIA Unveils Lighter AI Model for Project G-Assist, Expanding Support to 6GB RTX GPUs

At Gamescom 2025, NVIDIA announced a pivotal update to Project G-Assist, its innovative on-device AI chatbot and utility. The core of this update is a new, more efficient AI model designed to drastically reduce the video memory (VRAM) footprint required for operation. Previously, Project G-Assist necessitated 12GB or higher VRAM, but with this new model, the requirement has been halved to as little as 6GB of video memory. This 40% reduction in memory footprint significantly broadens the accessibility of the AI assistant across NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX and RTX PRO GPU lineup.

The expanded compatibility now includes a wide array of graphics cards, such as the 11GB RTX 2080 Ti, 10GB RTX 3080, numerous 8GB cards, and crucially, 6GB cards like the RTX 2060. This move is particularly beneficial for laptop GPU models, which often feature lower VRAM capacities compared to their desktop counterparts, enabling a larger segment of the gaming laptop market to utilize G-Assist’s capabilities.

Project G-Assist empowers gamers to interact with their systems using natural language prompts. Its functionalities include running in-game diagnostics, optimizing game performance, providing real-time graphics sub-system information and monitoring, and adjusting GPU or gaming peripheral settings. This hands-free control aims to streamline the gaming experience, allowing players to focus more on gameplay and less on manual system tweaks.

Further enhancing its utility, NVIDIA also unveiled the G-Assist plug-in hub, developed in collaboration with Mod.io. This hub allows users to integrate additional plug-ins, extending the assistant’s capabilities to encompass various game peripherals and other utilities. Recent examples from a G-Assist plug-in hackathon showcased winning projects like Omniplay, Launchpad, and the Flux NIM microservice, demonstrating the potential for a rich ecosystem of AI-powered gaming tools. This strategic update underscores NVIDIA’s commitment to integrating advanced AI directly into the gaming experience, making powerful AI tools more widely available to its user base.
