Nightfall Unveils ‘Nyx’: AI-Powered Data Loss Prevention for Enterprises

TLDR: Nightfall has launched ‘Nyx,’ an AI-native Data Loss Prevention (DLP) platform designed to automate and enhance data security at an enterprise scale. Nyx aims to proactively identify and prevent sensitive data from leaving controlled environments, addressing the growing challenges of data exfiltration, especially with the widespread adoption of generative AI tools.

Nightfall, a leader in data loss prevention, has officially unveiled ‘Nyx,’ an innovative AI-powered solution set to revolutionize enterprise-scale data security. Announced on July 30, 2025, Nyx is positioned as the industry’s first autonomous Data Loss Prevention (DLP) platform that integrates precision AI detection with comprehensive coverage across various data exfiltration vectors.

The rapid proliferation of artificial intelligence, particularly generative AI tools like ChatGPT and Copilot, has introduced both unprecedented productivity opportunities and significant data security challenges for organizations. A major concern is ‘shadow AI,’ where employees utilize AI tools outside sanctioned corporate channels, leading to an elevated risk of sensitive data exposure. Nightfall’s ‘Nyx’ directly addresses these modern challenges by enabling secure AI adoption rather than simply blocking it.

According to Rohan Sathe, Co-Founder and CEO of Nightfall, ‘We’re seeing massive amounts of data that continues to flow from corporate environments to generative AI solutions, and that potentially exposes sensitive data. This sensitive data can be a mixture of IP: customer PII, competitive data, or personal employee data. It all results in many different governance gaps.’ He emphasized that Nightfall’s goal is to ‘provide controls to organizations so that they can properly assess how AI applications are being used without stunting productivity.’

Nyx offers a suite of key capabilities for securing AI interactions. It provides continuous and seamless monitoring to detect and prevent sensitive information, such as source code, credentials, or Personally Identifiable Information (PII), from being pasted or typed into AI prompts. Anant Mahajan, Head of Product at Nightfall, stated, ‘Nightfall automatically detects and prevents exposure of content within prompts.’ The platform can automatically block transfers of sensitive data and offer immediate remediation options to users and security teams.

Furthermore, Nyx utilizes data lineage to understand the origin of data, blocking risky file uploads from high-value corporate sources (e.g., Google Drive, Zendesk) to unsanctioned AI tools. Sathe noted that ‘The combination of data lineage and AI-based content classification is what makes the detection much more accurate. The nuance is in where the content originated, and the classification allows us to provide highly accurate detection.’

The platform also supports contextual policy enforcement, allowing for granular and adaptive policies based on data lineage, content sensitivity, user roles, and destination. Administrators can configure automated actions like blocking or redaction. A ‘human firewall’ feature provides real-time feedback to employees attempting risky actions, educating them on the dangers of sharing sensitive data. Nyx also prevents copy-paste exfiltration by monitoring clipboard activity, stopping sensitive content from corporate applications from being pasted into AI applications accessed via browsers.

Mahajan summarized Nightfall’s comprehensive approach, stating, ‘We are an AI-powered DLP platform that helps organizations prevent data leaks and stop data exfiltration across all the major exfiltration vectors.’ By integrating endpoint agents for macOS and Windows, browser plugins for Chrome, Edge, Safari, and Firefox, and API connections for SaaS applications like Google Drive, OneDrive, and Zendesk, Nightfall ensures holistic visibility. This, combined with advanced AI-driven content classification, promises highly accurate detection with minimal false positives.
