Among larger businesses, AI adoption saw a substantial increase from 48% in 2023 to 67% in 2024, as reported by the Global Government Forum.
To guide this transformative growth responsibly, the New Zealand government introduced the New Zealand AI Strategy 2025. This principles-based, OECD-aligned framework emphasizes ethical, treaty-aligned, and economically savvy AI development. A key objective of this strategy is to achieve an economic uplift of NZ$76 billion by 2038, as projected by the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment. Complementing this, the Public Service AI Framework, launched in February 2025, provides a model for safe and transparent AI deployments within the public sector.
