TLDR: Microsoft has made Copilot Studio available to all users, empowering them to develop custom AI agents without extensive coding. This initiative includes the introduction of a Personal Shopping Agent, designed to revolutionize retail experiences through interactive, AI-powered conversational product discovery. The strategic move aims to accelerate the adoption of AI solutions across various business functions by providing highly tailored and integrated tools.
Microsoft has significantly enhanced its artificial intelligence offerings by making Copilot Studio broadly available to all users, alongside the introduction of a specialized Personal Shopping Agent. This strategic expansion aims to democratize AI development, allowing individuals and organizations to create custom AI assistants tailored to their specific needs without requiring extensive coding expertise.
Copilot Studio provides a low-code, graphical development environment that leverages generative AI and sophisticated dialogue creation capabilities. This platform enables users to build ‘Copilot Agents’ that can perform a wide array of functions, from retrieving and summarizing information to answering questions, executing tasks, and even operating autonomously to orchestrate complex plans. A simplified ‘lightweight’ version of Copilot Studio is also being rolled out, making it even easier for users of all skill levels to build agents directly within Microsoft 365 Business Chat and SharePoint.
These custom-built agents can be deployed for personal use, shared within specific employee groups, or made accessible across an entire company. Microsoft facilitates their discovery and integration by allowing agents to be published directly to Microsoft 365 Copilot, where they appear in a dedicated store within Microsoft 365 Copilot Business Chat, Teams, and the Microsoft 365 app. Users can interact with these agents by simply using an ‘@’ mention in a chat, while IT administrators retain control to curate and manage the available catalog.
One of the key new applications is the Personal Shopping Agent (Preview), specifically designed for the retail sector. This Microsoft-managed, headless conversational AI solution can be embedded into shopping websites, customer-facing applications, or in-store apps. It aims to provide a highly personalized consumer experience through contextual, informative interactions and product recommendations. The agent facilitates conversational product discovery, allowing customers to engage in interactive chats, much like consulting a knowledgeable sales associate or stylist. This approach moves beyond traditional keyword searches, guiding customers to the right products while maintaining the retailer’s unique brand voice and expertise, as it is guided by the retailer’s own product information, policies, and brand guidelines. Built on Microsoft Copilot Studio and leveraging OpenAI’s SLM and LLM models, the Personal Shopping Agent offers rapid deployment, enabling retailers to implement and test the solution within one to two days.

Microsoft reports strong early adoption, with over 50,000 organizations already utilizing Copilot Studio. Bryan Goode, Microsoft’s Corporate VP, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “I feel great about the adoption… customers are eager to customize Copilot to their unique needs.” The pricing for Copilot Studio starts at $200 per month for 25,000 agent messages, requiring an existing Microsoft 365 Copilot plan, which costs $30 per user per month with an annual commitment. Microsoft also underscores its commitment to responsible AI, ensuring that Copilot agents operate within the company’s existing security frameworks and adhere to organizational data policies. This move positions Microsoft firmly in the competitive AI landscape, where major players like Salesforce, Zendesk, and Oracle are also introducing their own AI-powered agent solutions.
