MakeMyTrip Unveils Advanced AI Assistant Myra, Bolstering Competitive Edge

TLDR: MakeMyTrip has launched a significantly upgraded version of its AI-powered trip planning assistant, Myra, integrating multi-modal and multi-lingual capabilities. This enhancement aims to provide a seamless and intuitive travel booking experience, strengthening MakeMyTrip’s market position and addressing investor concerns about AI-driven disruptions in the online travel industry.

MakeMyTrip, a leading online travel agency, has introduced a major upgrade to its artificial intelligence-powered trip planning assistant, Myra. This advanced generative AI tool is designed to revolutionize the travel booking experience by offering comprehensive support from destination discovery to post-sales assistance, leveraging conversational AI capabilities.

The enhanced Myra assistant now boasts multi-modal and multi-lingual functionalities, allowing users to interact through text, voice, images, and even video. Initially supporting English and Hindi, MakeMyTrip plans to expand language coverage to include more Indian regional languages, aiming to democratize digital travel planning across the country, particularly in the ‘Bharat heartland’. Myra can process complex queries, such as finding a relaxing holiday destination for families in a specific month or locating a 3-star hotel within a certain budget, providing personalized recommendations based on real-time inventory and pricing.

According to Rajesh Magow, Co-Founder and Group CEO of MakeMyTrip, the company’s vision is to make technology solve complex problems while keeping the customer interface intuitive. He stated, “With gen AI, we take that vision further by turning intent into action through natural, human-like conversations. By enabling access initially in Hindi, and expanding to multiple Indian languages soon, this launch has the potential to solve for the Bharat heartland, reaching the deepest corners and bringing seamless, intelligent travel booking to those who’ve long been underserved by digital platforms.” Magow emphasized that Myra integrates the full strength of MakeMyTrip’s platform, including customer preferences, supply data, user-generated content, and real-time intelligence, to create ‘connected journeys’ that adapt to individual traveler needs.

Sanjay Mohan, Group CTO of MakeMyTrip, described Myra’s development as one of the company’s “most ambitious tech builds.” He highlighted that it is unique in its ability to operate across numerous categories in real-time and at significant depth. The system is built on a proprietary network of specialized AI agents and custom language models developed in-house, layered with planning, scheduling, and verification systems that work in sync to provide real-time responses. Myra can handle a wide array of tasks, including itinerary changes, route planning, and customer support across flights, hotels, holiday packages, transport, visas, and forex.
