Agentic AI Adoption in Marketing Remains Nascent, Poised for Significant Growth

TLDR: A recent survey reveals that while generative AI is widely adopted, only about a quarter to a third of marketers have experimented with agentic AI, a more autonomous form of artificial intelligence. Despite current low adoption, this technology is expected to revolutionize marketing by automating complex tasks, enhancing personalization, and significantly boosting campaign performance in the coming years.

While generative AI has become a staple in marketing departments, a new report highlights that the adoption of more advanced ‘agentic AI’ remains in its early stages. According to a comprehensive survey conducted by Outcomes Rocket involving 1,299 marketers across various industries, only about a third (33.3%) have experimented with agentic AI. Another report indicates that 24.3% of marketers have actively used agentic AI, which is capable of executing marketing campaigns with minimal human input.

Agentic AI represents a significant leap beyond traditional automation. Described as AI’s ‘more evolved cousin,’ it possesses the ability to observe, decide, act, and iterate autonomously. This means it can run entire campaigns, adapt to consumer behavior in real-time, and refine personalization without constant human intervention, offering a bold alternative to manual adjustments and dashboard monitoring.

Early adopters are already witnessing substantial benefits. Netcore Cloud’s ‘State of MarTech 2025’ report, based on a 1000-campaign study, found that agentic AI is delivering double the conversions for those who have implemented it. Brands leveraging agentic AI for predictive segmentation, affinity modeling, and AI-generated content are reporting 23% gains in campaign performance, with projections to reach 30–35% by year-end. Beyond direct performance, agentic AI is expected to enhance customer experience through hyper-personalized solutions, streamline operations, and provide real-time insights by sifting through vast amounts of data to answer complex questions and identify key themes.

Despite its immense potential, the current landscape for agentic AI is characterized by unfamiliarity and a reserved approach. Marketers frequently encounter challenges with AI-generated content, with over 93% reporting issues such as inaccuracy, bias, or irrelevancy. This leads to a significant portion (70-71.1%) spending considerable time revising or proofreading AI outputs. Furthermore, a lack of formal training is evident, as 80.8% of marketers indicate no employer-provided education on AI tools, and only about 42% are confident in identifying AI-generated content.

Concerns about job security also persist, with nearly 89% of marketers believing AI will impact jobs in the next 2-3 years, particularly junior roles, as approximately 30% of tasks are likely to be automated. However, industry experts view the current low adoption as an indicator of promising growth. Agentic AI is poised to be transformative within the next 12 to 24 months, with nearly half (48%) of marketers anticipating its rise. By the end of 2025, over 78% of mid-to-large enterprises across various sectors are expected to deploy some form of AI agents, solidifying its role as a core component of business automation.
