SAN ANTONIO – The Mark Cuban Foundation, in collaboration with Girls Inc., has announced a free Artificial Intelligence (AI) bootcamp for high school students in San Antonio, with applications closing on September 30. This initiative is specifically designed to empower underserved youth, focusing on recruiting girls, students of color, first-generation college students, and those from low to moderate-income households.
The no-cost bootcamp offers a custom and highly relevant curriculum, providing participants with a foundational understanding of AI and Generative AI. The program aims to equip students with the tools to leverage these technologies for future careers, educating, inspiring, and fostering the next generation of AI professionals. Students can choose from six specialized tracks: healthcare, arts and entertainment, business and entrepreneurship, computer science, sports science, or education and career readiness.
Mark Cuban, founder of the Mark Cuban Foundation, emphasized the importance of such initiatives, stating, “As AI continues to become an undeniable force in all of our lives, it’s crucial that we open the door to this knowledge, especially to young people who want to explore it.” The program is accessible to students in grades 9-12 with an interest in technology, and notably, no prior familiarity with computer science or programming is required to attend.
Beyond the curriculum, the bootcamp provides comprehensive support to its participants, including lunch, a snack, transportation assistance, and necessary technology equipment during the program. The bootcamp will run over three consecutive Saturdays, delving into topics such as what AI is and isn’t, its presence in daily life, and the ethical implications of AI systems.
