Faridabad, October 27, 2025 – A tragic incident has unfolded in Faridabad, where a 19-year-old college student, Rahul Bharti, a second-year B.Com student at DAV College, took his own life after allegedly being blackmailed with AI-generated obscene photographs and videos of himself and his three sisters. The incident has highlighted a grave misuse of artificial intelligence technology for cybercrime.
According to police reports, Rahul, who resided with his family in Baselwa Colony, had been under immense distress for approximately two weeks prior to his death. His father, Manoj Bharti, noted a significant change in his son’s behavior, stating, “He was not eating properly and mostly stayed silent in his room.” The family’s complaint alleges that Rahul’s mobile phone was hacked, after which unidentified individuals utilized artificial intelligence to create fake nude images and videos. These morphed visuals were then sent to Rahul via WhatsApp, accompanied by a demand for ₹20,000.
The blackmailers reportedly threatened to make the fabricated content viral on social media if the payment was not made. Manoj Bharti recounted the harrowing experience, stating, “The accused threatened Rahul that if he didn’t pay, they would make the videos and photos viral on social media. Rahul became extremely distressed by this blackmailing. He was not eating properly. It was around 7 pm on Saturday when Rahul consumed sulphas tablets in his room. We immediately rushed him to the hospital, but he died during treatment.”
Upon examining Rahul’s phone, his family discovered extensive WhatsApp conversations with a person identified as ‘Sahil,’ who had sent the AI-generated images and videos and demanded money. Disturbingly, the messages also contained content inciting Rahul to commit suicide, even suggesting methods to end his life. Rahul’s father further alleged that one of his son’s friends, Neeraj Bharti, might also be involved, as Rahul had last spoken to Neeraj on the day of the incident.
Police spokesperson SI Yashpal confirmed the sequence of events, stating, “Distressed by the threats and blackmail, Rahul consumed sulphas tablets on Saturday. He was admitted to a hospital but died during treatment in the early hours of Sunday.”
