Bengaluru is set to host the highly anticipated ET Soonicorns Summit 2025 on August 22, an event poised to unveil a comprehensive AI scale blueprint designed to propel Indian startups towards unicorn valuation. The summit, themed ‘From Research Labs to Revenue Models: The Billion-Dollar Blueprint for Scaling Indian AI Startups,’ aims to provide actionable strategies and a clear roadmap for deep-tech futures within the AI landscape.
The event will serve as a definitive platform for AI-first founders, soonicorns (high-potential startups nearing unicorn status), unicorn hunters, investors, and policymakers. Key discussions will revolve around critical aspects such as AI investments, the development of Indian Large Language Models (LLMs), the evolving future of jobs in an AI-driven economy, and the ethical considerations surrounding artificial intelligence.
India’s startup ecosystem has firmly established itself as the world’s third-largest, with over 1.59 lakh startups officially recognized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) as of January 15, 2025. The nation currently boasts 121 unicorns, placing it behind only the United States (1,047) and China (248). Through July 14, 2025, India has seen the emergence of four new unicorns, marking a 25% growth compared to the same period in 2024.
Despite a 6.5% dip in overall startup funding in 2024, with $30.4 billion raised, the ecosystem has demonstrated remarkable resilience. The focus on AI is intensifying, with experts noting, ‘Artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer a buzzword in Indian startups; it’s the battleground.’ The central question for the summit is not ‘whether India will play the AI game; it’s how Indian startups can win it.’
The Indian AI market is projected for significant growth, expected to reach $244.22 billion in 2025 and an impressive $1.01 trillion by 2031. However, achieving this scale requires more than just good technology. As highlighted by experts, ‘scale is not a by-product of good tech. It needs deliberate architecture—capital, compute, policy, and people.’
A dedicated session titled ‘The Billion-Dollar AI Blueprint: Scaling Indian Startups in the Next Decade’ will feature prominent figures from the industry. The panel includes Shally Modi, Co-founder of Pratilipi; Shweta Rajpal Kohli, President & CEO of Startup Policy Forum; Manish Gupta, Senior Director at Google DeepMind; Raghunandan G, Founder of Zolve; and Ritesh Banglani, Partner at Stellaris Venture Partners. This session aims to address the crucial challenge of scaling Indian AI startups before the global opportunity window closes, emphasizing that ‘innovation without scale won’t cut it.’
