eHealth Bolsters AI Strategy with Enhanced Voice Agent ‘Alice’ for Comprehensive Customer Support

TLDR: eHealth, a prominent online health insurance marketplace, has significantly advanced its AI strategy by expanding the capabilities of its AI-powered voice agent, Alice. Launched earlier in 2025, Alice now handles a broader range of customer interactions, including post-enrollment inquiries, application status updates, ID card questions, billing assistance, and ‘Do Not Call’ requests for Medicare Advantage beneficiaries. This expansion aims to streamline the customer experience, reduce wait times, and enhance efficiency, reflecting a growing consumer acceptance of AI for health plan assistance.

AUSTIN, Texas – November 12, 2025 – eHealth (Nasdaq: EHTH), a leading online health insurance marketplace, today announced a significant expansion of its artificial intelligence (AI) strategy with enhanced capabilities for its AI-powered voice agent, Alice. This move solidifies eHealth’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology to improve the customer experience for Medicare Advantage beneficiaries.

Initially introduced in early 2025 to assist with shopping and initial enrollment calls, Alice has now evolved to support a more comprehensive range of post-enrollment and general service inquiries. Her expanded responsibilities include providing general information on application status, guiding customers on expected ID card receipt, directing individuals to appropriate billing contacts for their health plans, and processing ‘Do Not Call’ requests. This broadens Alice’s role beyond initial plan selection to ongoing customer support, addressing common inquiries efficiently and effectively.

Ketan Babaria, Chief Digital and AI Officer of eHealth, emphasized the strategic importance of this development. “With the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period in full swing, AI is playing a key role in streamlining how beneficiaries shop for and use their Medicare Advantage plans,” said Babaria. “While licensed insurance agents remain essential as expert guides, AI voice agents help facilitate a faster and more seamless shopping and support experience.”

Since her launch earlier this year, Alice has demonstrated remarkable success. She has eliminated after-hours wait times, ensuring a 100% answer rate for all inquiries. Furthermore, Alice has achieved an ‘exceptional’ rating from 77% of callers, indicating high levels of customer satisfaction. Notably, calls assisted by Alice during after-hours have shown a 30.9% interest in purchasing a plan, a significant increase compared to 24.4% for human screeners.

eHealth’s proactive adoption of AI technology is largely unmatched among Medicare brokers. The company has consistently leveraged AI and machine learning to match beneficiaries with suitable health plans based on individual needs, including coverage, physicians, and prescription drugs, from an extensive catalog of national and regional insurers. This technological leadership has been a defining characteristic of eHealth since its inception, continually aiming to enhance customer interactions.

This expansion aligns with evolving consumer preferences. A recent eHealth survey revealed that 50% of Medicare beneficiaries would be interested in interacting with an AI agent via phone if it resulted in more efficient assistance during their plan shopping journey.
