Edifecs Introduces Advanced AI-Powered Platform for Streamlined Value-Based Payment Management

TLDR: Edifecs, a Cotiviti business, has launched the next generation of its Population Payment Management platform, leveraging agentic artificial intelligence to revolutionize the administration of value-based payment contracts in healthcare. This innovation aims to reduce administrative and medical loss ratios, enhance financial performance, and scale value-based care programs.

BELLEVUE, Wash. – Edifecs, a prominent player in healthcare data interoperability and a Cotiviti business, announced on September 22, 2025, the unveiling of its enhanced Population Payment Management platform. This next-generation solution is powered by agentic artificial intelligence (AI), designed to tackle persistent challenges within healthcare’s value-based payment (VBP) transformation.

The new platform offers a practical and scalable application of AI, enabling healthcare payers to significantly lower administrative and medical loss ratios, expand value-based care initiatives, and optimize overall financial performance. At its core, the Edifecs VBP processing platform utilizes agentic AI, which employs intelligent, task-oriented ‘agents.’ These agents are programmed to comprehend healthcare payment objectives and the intricate nuances of VBP program design. They actively monitor context to initiate appropriate workflows, generate real-time insights, and execute complex workflow analyses from beginning to end.

The AI agents automate tasks that traditionally demand extensive resources, allowing organizations to accelerate the scaling of value-based programs, decrease administrative expenses, and acquire timely, actionable intelligence for confident decision-making. By improving the accuracy and speed of settlement processes, these agents are poised to reduce both administrative and medical loss ratios, thereby boosting financial performance for healthcare payers.

Edifecs emphasizes a responsible deployment strategy for its agentic AI, ensuring human oversight. The AI agents are designed to augment, rather than replace, the expertise of healthcare professionals, while strictly adhering to data privacy, transparency, and regulatory compliance standards. It is crucial to note that these AI agents are not intended for clinical decision-making or medical necessity determinations. Instead, their purpose is to power VBP contract design and settlement, streamline VBC workflows, and provide clear, actionable insights into contract performance.

The enhanced platform introduces three specialized AI agents. Central among these is Virtual Jonathan (VJ), a next-generation data analyst agent. VJ provides teams with natural language access to contract terms and performance metrics, allowing users to explore Population Payment Management data in real time, answer ad-hoc questions, and generate operational analytics on demand, without requiring SQL, coding, or complex report building. VJ is complemented by two additional agents that further enhance the platform’s capabilities.

Collectively, these agents transform Population Payment Management into a dynamic, conversational analytics platform, empowering payers and providers to operate with speed and precision. Future updates are expected to include deep research agents that will coordinate multiple AI agents through a model context protocol to resolve complex analytical challenges that typically require significant time and large teams.
