Doximity Acquires Pathway Medical to Bolster AI-Powered Clinical Tools for Physicians

TLDR: Doximity, a leading digital platform for U.S. medical professionals, has acquired Montreal-based AI startup Pathway Medical for $63 million. This strategic move aims to integrate Pathway’s advanced AI-powered clinical reference tools and extensive medical datasets into Doximity’s platform, providing millions of doctors with enhanced, evidence-based support at the point of care.

In a significant move poised to reshape the landscape of medical technology, Doximity, the prominent digital platform catering to U.S. medical professionals, announced its acquisition of Pathway Medical Inc., an innovative AI startup based in Montreal. The deal, valued at $63 million, closed on July 29, 2025, comprising $26 million in cash and up to $37 million in additional equity grants.

This acquisition marks a deeper dive into artificial intelligence for Doximity, an $11 billion health tech company. Pathway Medical specializes in developing AI-powered clinical reference tools that enable doctors to quickly access synthesized answers from vast medical literature regarding guidelines, drugs, and clinical trials. A cornerstone of Pathway’s value proposition is its meticulously assembled, physician-led team and one of the largest structured datasets in medicine, purpose-built for AI. This comprehensive dataset spans nearly every guideline, drug, and landmark trial across all major medical specialties.

Pathway’s AI model has demonstrated remarkable accuracy, notably achieving a record 96 percent score on the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) benchmark, setting a new standard for clinical precision. This performance underscores the reliability and potential impact of its technology in clinical settings.

Jeff Tangney, co-founder and CEO of Doximity, expressed enthusiasm for the acquisition, stating, ‘We’re thrilled to welcome the Pathway team to Doximity. They’ve painstakingly built one of the best datasets in medicine, and it’s going to take our clinical reference capabilities to an entirely new level.’ The integration of Pathway’s technology is already underway, with thousands of doctors currently beta-testing the combined product.
