TLDR: DigitalOcean has announced the general availability of its GradientAI Platform, a fully managed AI service designed to simplify the integration of generative AI capabilities into applications for developers and digital native enterprises. The platform offers tools for building AI agents, serverless inference with leading foundation models, and comprehensive features to accelerate AI application development without the complexity of infrastructure management.
DigitalOcean Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: DOCN) has officially announced the general availability of its DigitalOcean GradientAI Platform, a significant step aimed at democratizing and simplifying generative AI development for digital native enterprises and developers. Previously known as GenAI Platform during its public preview phase, the GradientAI Platform is a managed AI service that empowers users to seamlessly integrate advanced generative AI capabilities into their applications.
The platform’s core offering revolves around enabling customers to create AI applications by combining their proprietary data with state-of-the-art foundation models from industry leaders such as Anthropic, Meta, Mistral, and OpenAI. This multi-model approach ensures flexibility and access to diverse AI capabilities.
Key features of the GradientAI Platform include a robust agent builder, which allows for the creation of fully-managed AI agents equipped with knowledge bases for retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). These agents can be enhanced through function routing to integrate with third-party APIs and agent routing to connect with other GenAI Agents within the platform. Additionally, the platform provides serverless inference, allowing developers to make direct requests to popular foundation models without managing underlying infrastructure.
One of the primary challenges in the current generative AI ecosystem is its fragmentation, with tools and data sources often scattered across multiple platforms. DigitalOcean’s GradientAI Platform addresses this by consolidating all necessary tools and data within a single, intuitive user interface. It offers seamless integrations for storage, functions, and databases, all powered by DigitalOcean’s dedicated GPU cloud infrastructure.
Since its initial public preview launch in January 2025, the platform has undergone significant enhancements driven by real-world adoption and user feedback. Notable upgrades include external data integration, allowing connections to external files and documents from sources like Amazon S3, which facilitates bringing real-world context into agents using RAG. Furthermore, new features such as agent traceability, customer conversation logs, and agent evaluation provide deeper visibility into agent behavior, greater control over data and logic, and improved collaboration across development teams.
DigitalOcean emphasizes that the GradientAI Platform is built with simplicity in mind, aiming to accelerate the deployment of GenAI-backed experiences. It removes the burden of infrastructure management, allowing developers to focus on innovation rather than operational complexities. This approach is particularly beneficial for businesses looking to automate workflows, enhance customer support, or build entirely new AI products without requiring deep AI expertise within their teams.
