This initiative is part of Cognizant’s $1 billion investment in AI, fostering innovation and skill development.
TEANECK, N.J. – Cognizant (NASDAQ: CTSH) has embarked on a groundbreaking endeavor, launching what is poised to be the world’s largest generative AI hackathon, dubbed “Vibe Coding Week.” The ambitious initiative, which commenced on July 30, 2025, has already registered over 250,000 employees from diverse departments, including HR, sales, engineering, and marketing, all eager to delve into the new era of AI programming. The company is actively pursuing a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDSâ„¢ title for the most participants in an online generative AI hackathon, a category that closely aligns with the structure and scale of this event.
This week-long event is a cornerstone of Cognizant’s strategic commitment to advancing AI literacy across its entire workforce, regardless of technical background. CEO Ravi Kumar S. emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “We’re thrilled to be attempting the first and largest vibe coding event, a groundbreaking initiative that underscores our commitment to advancing AI literacy across talent, no matter the technical skill.” He further elaborated on the democratizing effect of AI, noting, “Historically, there’s been a significant divide between those who had access to technology and those who didn’t – but now, technology has been diffused into the hands of people who don’t need deep digital skills to access it. This leveling of the playing field is enabling us to unleash new value in the workplace, driving innovation and progress across all backgrounds and expertise.”
The hackathon is a direct outcome of Cognizant’s substantial $1 billion investment in AI, announced in 2023, spanning a three-year period. This investment aims to harness the productivity gains of AI and foster high-value engagement from its talent pool. The impact of AI is already evident within the company, with AI-generated code developed in collaboration with Cognizant employees increasing to nearly 30 percent of total output in the second quarter of this year.
To support this massive undertaking, Cognizant rapidly built an internal learning hub within a month, providing comprehensive resources such as tutorials, prompt engineering kits, and project workflows. Participants have the flexibility to choose from leading platforms like Lovable, Windsurf, Cursor, Gemini Code Assist, or GitHub Copilot, based on their comfort level and experience. The event features hands-on workshops, best-practice sessions, an innovation competition, and recognition for outstanding projects. Following the conclusion of “Vibe Coding Week,” participants can join the Cognizant Global Vibe Coding Community to continue collaborating and developing solutions for both internal use and clients.
