Cisco’s Aruna Ravichandran Emphasizes Execution in AI Strategies for Future of Work

Aruna Ravichandran, the marketing lead for Webex at Cisco, recently underscored the paramount importance of execution in the realm of artificial intelligence strategies, stating unequivocally that ‘strategy without execution is hallucination.’ Her remarks, made at the Webex One convention in San Diego, shed light on her forward-thinking philosophy for navigating the evolving landscape of AI, work, marketing, and technology.

Ravichandran articulated her perspective on AI’s fundamental impact on team operations by outlining three distinct layers of AI adoption. The first layer comprises individuals who fear AI will render their jobs obsolete. The second layer consists of those concerned that someone more proficient in AI might take their position. The third, and most proactive, layer includes individuals who are actively embracing AI to revolutionize their operational methods. Ravichandran proudly noted that 95% of her team falls into this third category.

She provided a compelling example of AI’s efficiency, recounting a scenario where a keynote animation design, typically requiring several days, was revamped in approximately 10 minutes. Her creative director, leveraging an image from Shutterstock, utilized AI to generate the simulation rapidly, demonstrating the velocity AI can bring to creative processes.

Addressing the interplay between AI augmentation and human creativity, Ravichandran emphasized that ‘the human brain can never be replaced by AI, but you’ve got to put it in the prompt.’ She likened AI’s output to the ‘garbage in, garbage out’ principle, stressing that the intelligence and specificity embedded in a prompt are crucial. Regardless of one’s role—be it a developer, marketer, or strategist—the ability to craft effective prompts is paramount. AI, she explained, saves countless hours, allowing professionals to dedicate more time to refining prompts and achieving unprecedented speed in output.

Beyond AI, Ravichandran also shared insights into her team’s remarkable success: a 99% remote workforce with less than 1% attrition. This achievement, she explained, stemmed from a ‘winners’ mentality adopted during the pandemic.
