TLDR: Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) has partnered with CellStrat AI Lab to introduce ‘Docathon.ai,’ a pioneering program that unites doctors, engineers, and students. This initiative, starting November 2, 2025, aims to collaboratively develop AI solutions for pressing medical challenges through workshops, mentorship, and a hackathon, ultimately revolutionizing healthcare.
Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI), a premier medical institution, has joined forces with CellStrat AI Lab, a leading AI company, to launch ‘Docathon.ai.’ This groundbreaking program is designed to bridge the gap between medical expertise and technological innovation by bringing together doctors, engineers, and students to co-create artificial intelligence solutions for real-world medical challenges. The initiative is set to commence on November 2, 2025.
‘Docathon.ai’ is billed as the world’s first doctor-led hackathon, emphasizing a collaborative approach where medical and engineering participants will work jointly. The program’s core objective is to apply AI in various healthcare domains, including clinical workflows, hospital operations, patient care, and diagnostics.
The initiative kicks off with a four-part online workshop series on clinical AI, running from November 2 to December 7, 2025. These sessions will introduce participants to the fundamentals of AI in healthcare, covering topics such as Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning (DL), Generative AI (GenAI), and Large Language Models (LLMs). Experts will present insights into real AI breakthroughs in medicine, including examples like AlphaFold and Watson.
During the workshops, participants will learn how AI can be applied in medicine and will form mixed teams of doctors and engineers. Doctors will contribute invaluable medical insights, while engineers will provide technical expertise, ensuring that the developed solutions are both clinically relevant and technologically robust. This collaborative environment is expected to be a ‘win-win situation’ for all involved, fostering a deeper understanding between the medical and engineering fraternities.
Following the workshop phase, teams will receive one-on-one mentorship from AI and data science experts at CellStrat to refine their projects. This guidance will help participants develop their AI solutions further, preparing them for real-world application.
The program will culminate on December 7, 2025, with a pitching event at BMCRI Bengaluru. Here, participants will present their innovative AI solutions, gaining national visibility and competing for recognition, grants, and potential internships from healthcare organizations. The initiative also offers the possibility of receiving guidance from global AI experts and healthcare leaders.
‘Docathon.ai’ is open to a wide range of participants, including MBBS/MD students, interns, residents, faculty, researchers, engineers, and data science students from across the world. While medical participants do not require prior technical skills, engineers are expected to have coding knowledge. The registration fee for the workshop series is ₹3,000 plus GST, with an additional fee of ₹2,000 plus GST applicable when participants are grouped into teams. All participants will receive an industry-recognized co-branded certificate from BMCRI and CellStrat AI Lab.
