TLDR: AWS has introduced a generative AI-powered WhatsApp assistant, built using AWS End User Messaging and Amazon Bedrock, to significantly improve attendee experiences at large-scale events like the AWS Global Summits. This innovation, first deployed at the AWS Dubai Summit 2025, addresses common challenges faced by attendees, such as navigating complex event schedules and locating sessions, by providing real-time, personalized information.
In a significant stride towards revolutionizing event experiences, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has unveiled a generative AI-powered WhatsApp assistant, designed to streamline attendee engagement at major technology conferences. This innovative solution, detailed by the AWS Communication Developer Services (CDS) team, integrates AWS End User Messaging Social WhatsApp channels with Amazon Bedrock to deliver real-time, personalized assistance to participants. The system made its debut at the AWS Dubai Summit 2025, where it served as the ‘AWS Summit Assistant Bot’.
Technology conferences, including the expansive AWS Global Summits, are crucial platforms for fostering innovation, sharing knowledge, and networking within the rapidly evolving tech industry. However, attendees often grapple with challenges such as identifying relevant sessions, navigating large venues, and accessing timely information. The AWS Summit Assistant Bot aims to mitigate these issues by offering instant, context-aware responses directly through WhatsApp.
The architecture of the AWS Summit Assistant Bot is modular, comprising four key components that facilitate efficient message processing and analytics. When an attendee sends a message, it is first written to Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS) queues for systematic processing. AWS Lambda functions then handle the core business logic, processing these messages and managing interactions with Amazon DynamoDB. For generating responses, the system leverages Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases, ensuring personalized and relevant content for each user. These tailored responses are then routed back to attendees via AWS End User Messaging, completing the communication cycle. The system also incorporates custom Amazon CloudWatch WhatsApp metrics, enabling real-time monitoring of engagement events through Amazon Simple Notification Service (Amazon SNS) topic integration.
