Shihab Hamid, Head of Product for Rovo Agents at Atlassian, highlighted the crucial role of leadership in cultivating this culture of AI experimentation. He noted that while teams are empowered to build their own agents, “leadership plays a crucial role in fostering that culture of AI experimentation and play.” Hamid emphasized the importance of creating space for experimentation, stating, “It’s very important to create space to experiment and play” and that “Setting that tone top-down really makes a difference, because it encourages others to participate. It’s not just the wins.”

Atlassian’s approach to AI implementation is highly scalable, beginning with small-scale pilots and iteratively expanding based on user feedback. This ensures that their agentic AI systems can manage increasing demands without compromising performance or reliability. The company’s foundation for this advanced AI integration is its “Teamwork Graph,” a proprietary data model built on over two decades of understanding how teams collaborate, including common patterns and anti-patterns in team behavior, organizational structures, and communication lines. This comprehensive data is poured into the Teamwork Graph, serving as the “connective tissue that understands how teams get work done.”
