Alation Unveils Agent Builder for Enterprise-Grade AI on Structured Data

TLDR: Alation has launched Agent Builder, a new AI platform designed to enable enterprises to create, manage, and deploy highly accurate and governed AI agents for structured data. This platform addresses the critical challenge of ensuring reliability and precision when AI interacts with complex business data, leveraging Alation’s Knowledge Layer and offering a no-code interface with extensive integration capabilities.

Alation Inc., a leading data intelligence company, has officially announced the launch of its groundbreaking Alation Agent Builder. Unveiled at the company’s annual revAlation user conference on October 1, 2025, this next-generation artificial intelligence platform is set to revolutionize how enterprises interact with structured data by enabling the deployment of production-ready AI agents with unprecedented levels of accuracy and governance.

The core challenge Agent Builder aims to solve lies in the inherent difficulty of building AI agents that can reliably operate on structured data. While prototypes are relatively easy to develop, deploying these agents in a production environment demands rigorous accuracy and robust governance. Even a minor error in a data definition, filter, or query can lead to significantly compromised results, impacting critical financial and operational decisions.

Alation Agent Builder addresses these concerns by providing a comprehensive platform for creating metadata-aware, configurable AI agents. These agents are designed to deliver the accuracy, reliability, and governance essential for structured data. They achieve this by leveraging the Alation Knowledge Layer, a foundation of curated and governed data products that draw from the extensive metadata within the Alation Agentic Data Intelligence Platform. This ensures that every insight and action generated by the AI agents is rooted in the correct business context.

Users can build these sophisticated agents through a user-friendly no-code interface, complemented by a suite of prebuilt tools. The platform boasts seamless integration with over 100 data sources, allowing organizations to connect their AI agents to a vast array of enterprise data. Furthermore, the agents can be embedded into existing external applications and workflows using either the Model Context Protocol (MCP) or REST APIs. To guarantee production reliability, Agent Builder includes built-in evaluation and monitoring tools.

Satyen Sangani, co-founder and Chief Executive of Alation, emphasized the significance of this development, stating, “Powering agents to read from and write to structured data enables enterprises to unlock tremendous value from AI and it’s where precision matters most. With Agent Builder, we’re giving enterprises a way to move beyond prototypes and actually build agents that are accurate, governed and enterprise-grade. This is how AI goes from experiments to production.”

Notably, the technology underpinning Alation Agent Builder incorporates innovations from Numbers Stations Inc., an AI agents for data workflows startup that Alation acquired in May for an undisclosed sum.

Early adopters are already experiencing positive outcomes. Jones Lang LaSalle Inc. (JLL), a global commercial real estate and investment management company, is utilizing Agent Builder to query structured lease and property data, which in turn informs their lease renewal recommendations.
