Akka Unveils Agentic AI Platform to Boost Predictability and Scalability in Enterprise AI

TLDR: Akka, formerly Lightbend, has launched its new Agentic AI Platform, a comprehensive solution designed to mitigate the inherent uncertainties and complexities of agentic AI systems. The platform provides enterprises with tools for orchestration, agents, memory, and streaming, aiming to enable the confident deployment of AI agents at scale, reduce costs, and enhance predictability in their behavior and decision-making.

SAN FRANCISCO – July 14, 2025 – Akka, a recognized leader in delivering robust distributed systems, today announced the introduction of its groundbreaking Agentic AI Platform. This innovative platform is engineered to address the critical challenges of uncertainty and complexity that have historically impeded the widespread adoption and production deployment of agentic AI systems within enterprises.

Agentic AI, characterized by emergent behaviors, non-deterministic decision-making, and context-sensitive reasoning, presents a significant hurdle for IT leaders seeking to move beyond pilot projects. Unlike traditional deterministic systems, the unpredictable nature of AI agents has limited their deployment in large-scale, business-critical applications. Akka’s new platform directly confronts these issues by offering a comprehensive suite of capabilities aimed at providing ‘complete certainty’ for operational Service Level Agreements (SLAs) related to availability and recovery, as well as behavioral SLAs concerning safety and accuracy.

Tyler Jewell, CEO of Akka, emphasized the paradigm shift agentic systems demand from IT. “Agentic systems are forcing IT leaders to rethink their technology stack,” Jewell stated. “IT systems must adapt from controlling predefined workflows to managing intelligent, adaptive systems operating in open-ended environments that include non-deterministic LLMs. Scaling these systems and providing dependable outputs is a tremendous challenge and redefines the meaning of an SLA. Akka is unique in that we’re bringing IT the tools to solve this issue at enterprise scale, with enterprise confidence.”

The Akka Agentic Platform integrates several industry-first offerings: Akka Orchestration, Akka Agents, Akka Memory, and Akka Streaming. These components work in concert to simplify the management of distributed system requirements inherent in agentic AI. The company claims that with Akka, enterprises can achieve a ‘3X velocity’ in building, running, and evaluating agentic systems at scale, coupled with ‘⅓ the cost’ compared to alternative approaches.

This new platform is designed to support a wide array of agentic system types, including autonomous AI, adaptive AI (which dynamically changes goals), real-time AI, edge AI, intelligent AI automation, ambient AI (passive background monitoring), multi-modal systems (handling audio, video, and IoT metrics), transactional AI, digital twins, and analytic AI solutions. By providing the necessary tools to manage the inherent unpredictability, Akka aims to unlock the full potential of agentic AI for enterprise-level applications.
